Synthetic vision

Post by Spike »

Anyone take note that Garmin announced synthetic vision for the G1000 and there will be some on display at SNF? Looks like Diamond and Cessna have already announced that they will be offering it.

Boy things move fast. This really is a new day in avionics.

Looks like Grand Rapids introduced their new Horizon HX series EFIS with synthetic vision at SnF:

(I can't get the link to work, but copy and paste it into the browser).

Cool stuff, but I still prefer Real Vision by looking outside! Plus, you can't beat the price!

All this stuff is really cool and geeky. But I just like to get in and fly. The last thing I want to do is muck around with another computer. I think the next plane will have only steam gauges.

And Mike is right, the view outside the windshield is the best!

I hear that Scott! Mine will have an EFIS though, MGL Enigma. I am glad that I've cut my panel, and am "locked in" with a choice of the Enigma...I stopped paying attention to all the other stuff that has come out since then. Like I said, I can't keep up anyway...

I just seen it in AOPA newsletter. I played around with Infared in a Bell 209 (AH-1) that the Forest Service uses. Its nice for what its used for, (hot spot detection) but for GA, its still too expensive.
My $.02 from someone who has played with it (not used for flight though)

Yeah Chad, you are doing it right. Once you decide on your panel, you just have to put the blinders on regarding avionics etc. Otherwise you will just keep chasing your tail so to speak.
