i had to take a 182 down to jack's place, and he brought me back home, but let me fly, and make my first landing in an RV taildragger...not bad, but not great. that'll take some work, but man, i gotta get movin'!!

VERY COOL!!!
How was it to land Chad?!? Did it get freaky at the end? Did you wheel land or 3 point it?!?
Beth and I are 90% sure we're doing the sraight 7 but before yesterday, I had never even riden in a taildragger! We took my buddy's -4 to breakfast...what a ride!

Peter, during the time I spent in Ken Richard's -7 in Maine, it didn't prove difficult to master.
After some airwork, he did let me make the last landing and taxi back to the hangar from the right seat and it was... as expected. Nothing out of the norm. I floated over the runway longer than I envisioned and did a wheelie landing. It just seemed more natural, even though I was planning a 3 pointer and changed my mind at the last minute. Most agree that the RV's are better at wheel landings than 3 pointers.
Dunno why???

not difficult at all peter! i actually found it very satisfying and fairly easy. i've always been told that they are VERY tame taildraggers, and now that i have ONE landing in one, i can agree. the only thing i did wrong was i didn't 'stick' the mains on when i got it down. it's not instinctive for me to do that yet, so i floated back up a bit, but not a big deal. i did three point it.
That's great guys because I REALLY have always wanted a taildragger! ...and I have to agree that the landings we did in my friend's -4 didn't seem all scary like all the tailwheel pilots say! Certainly there are some differences but they're skills that can be learned like anything else.
-> and to confirm what you two said, he says the RV taildraggers don't have any suprizes like a Lucombe or other tailwheels have a reputation for. If you're flying heads up and stay in front of the plane you shouldn't have any more to worry about than if you were in a tri-gear. I think he's right! (which is why I'll probably ground loop mine on my first fight! )
Regardless I'm getting my tailwheel sign off this summer for sure! That's when we'll go from 90% to 100% on the straight 7!
- Peter
PS - Here's a pic I took from the back seat!

This thread inspired me to go out and do some taildraggin' today!
I took the Citabria up for a few trips around the cranberry bog!
It had been about 7 months since I strapped it on (been flying the Cherokee Six) and it all came back to me like riding a bicycle!
Damn, I can't wait to fly my own plane!!!

You DOG CJ!
You're lucky to have a taildragger in your area to use! I'll be flying 30 minutes to a grass strip outside of town just to get my rating and to rent it later on.
The lens is a 10.5mm fisheye which on a digital SLR translates to about a 16mm. It's a fun lens that doesn't get used too much.
Here is a shot of me trying to look tough on my first tail dragger ride! I had to work to wipe the smile off my face before I took this shot!

PS - It's still cold here in Minneapolis!

Nice job with the photos. I have a 12-24 that I use on my digital SLR somtimes but it doesn't give me the wild perspective you got with the 10.5. I like it but wouldn't use it enough.N200PF wrote:You DOG CJ!

Pretty warm in Iowa today but I ended up having to work most of the day.
