RB flyin

Post by tmbg »

any of y'all interested in putting together a fly-in to some relatively mutually accessible airport? It'd be nice to get us back together again from time to time!

This has been discussed from time to time around here. The problem is, is that we are so spread out that even if we chose someplace like Kansas, west coasters and east coasters would have to make a LONG day or two to get to it (depending on what they are flying). I think this is a GREAT idea when the majority of us get our airplanes done. I know there are lots of newbie's getting started on here, and all would be welcome. But since most of us who frequent RB (and call it home) are builders, it would be sweet to do a flyin sometime after many are flying.

If something can be, or is arranged prior to flying, I'd love to try and make it. But then again, I'm in the middle of the country, and it'd be fairly easy for me.

We won't solve the geography issue, so we probably shouldn't try. We could start one and float it around the country, or maybe start two, an east and a west.

The only thing really needed to do something like this is for someone to pick up the ball and run with it.

Another possibility is for anyone heading to OSH to stop at MNM (Menominee MI) about 80nm NE of OSH the weekend before it starts. We could even have a sort of organized group fly in to the convention. I flew in Tuesday AM this year and didn't see another airplane in the pattern until I was on final. (I suppose I should have opened my eyes more often...... :o )

MNM hosts the T34 pilots that do formation flyovers during the warbird shows. They practice here and also base here during the show.

Its a pretty quiet airport with nice long runways that we could actually do some flying, instead of just parking like at OSH.

alright, looks like we're going to plymouth in a couple weeks :D

It's a mere 807nm from me. Dan says he's up for it... He wants to meet you guys pretty bad :D

It'd be nice to find something sorta central east coast wise, but that requires finding a venue that we can party at as well, which may make it harder :)

BTW, this is still a GO if you guys still plan on coming!

I am scaring up a few locals and Bill's Wings SHOULD be installed by then (maybe this weekend if all goes well) and the heat works PERFECTLY, as does the fridge and Weber grille!

Sooooo, I will stock up and take a look at the weather and we can plan on it. Ian, if you wanna come up early and need a hotel room, lemme know. I can get the info for ya!

I should be there just after noon on the 11th. Since I'm renting I don't know how much time I'll have before I need to bring it back, but I'll be there for a bit anyway.

Cool! We will be here!

It looks like we will have a pretty good turnout, provided the WX is cooperative!

There might even be some drive-ins as well, as some are already on field.

C U soon!

I'd be honored if you took me for a ride if you have time ;)
I'm hoping to put the 4 back together on Saturday, so I can fly in as well on Sunday for the Hangar 5 RB event.

dangit... it's looking like I'm not going to be able to make it this weekend.

Factors working against me: I don't have monday off, so I'd have to leave at like noon sunday, which somewhat defeats the purpose of coming up; my airplane now has ZERO nav radios! I'm not terribly comfortable going 1600 miles without any nav radios :(

Off work sunday, but have to work the holiday 2:30 P.M. till 11 P.M. holiday pay plus time and a half for my work shift, and anything over 8 hours is double time if there is a need to stay later.

Since I have the day to myself, may just have to go back to this beach and do some snorkeling.
