If the heat sink is properly sized, This won't happen. Just make sure the wires are rated for whatever the max is on the driver you are using.

It was very easy to drill and tap the plate.
That's fine for the K2's. When I did mine, K2's were only available in white, so I had to use regular STARS which must be electrically isolated from each other.

Yep should have mentioned that K2s don't have to be isolated. The I's and III's can be mounted with screws as well but you have to put some non-conductive thermal material in between them and the base plate. There are some paste as well as thin materials that are made for this purpose. You would also have to ensure the screw is isolated or made from plastic. The thermal non conductive epoxy is most likely the best for those type emitters.

Brad,

Here is a better pic of how I mounted the K2 Stars and a shot showing them lit up. This is less the mirror at this point.

Here is the alum cover plate that I stole from Chad's design. I like this in conjunction with making the LED package some smaller than the cuttout area. I like the look of that better than the mirror comming all the way out to the lens. This plate gets polished and gives it a finished look. I will also be putting mirror on the strobe side as well.
