Pro-Seal -- How long to cure?

Post by aparchment »

I did my first Pro-sealing on my tanks last night (or this morning at 1 am). Shouldn't it be dry by now (7:30 pm). It's still tacky.

Nah... you will likely be able to sink a fingernail into it now.

Is that about where you are at?

Depends on the temperature too. I wouldn't expect it to be totally curred for a while yet. Chad, clecoed his together and then riveted the next day and I think he said it still squeezed some out. Is that right Chad? If not just bop me one and tell the real story.

That's about where it's at John.

Good to know that's the norm.

Antony,

Proseal cure time is very much affected by temperature and humidity. Higher temperature and higher humidity will speed up cure time. Lower temperature and humidity will slow it down. In normal circumstances, I would expect full cure to take a couple of days. After you are done with the Prosealing, just set the tank aside for a few days and let it set up completely.

Mine took a few days ... really even a week before it was fully set up. 24-48 hours after it was still tacky - would leave a fingerprint if you pressed on it.

I saved all the cups I mixed up in order until the tanks were done so I knew I had good batches. Also gave me something to compare to colorwise.

I mixed up some leftover a few weeks ago and used it to seal the shell on my brother's pickup ... worked well even in 40F temps!

During the setup time I avoided removing it from the cradle or severely "jostling" it around.

Antony, you and Thermos are at the exact same spot!

I gotta see about getting up there to give you a hand. You will need it when doing the baffles. The more "hands on task" for that job, the better. There are just a whole LOTTA rivets there to be squeezed! I will bring my squeezer with me then!

Antony, if you can get CJ's help on the baffle do it. You can do it yourself or with another person helping and only one squeezer but an extra one would sure be nice. :)

Besides CJ loves Proseal!

Help Riveting

Post by aparchment »

I would love some help John. I can even go down to you.

I will be away this weekend, but maybe next?

Speaking of the weekend after this one, do you have any interest in coming up for our delayed New Year's party?

Yeah, a little squeezed out. It was HOT and HUMID when I did mine, so it set up fairly quickly. Still a good three or four days before fully cured though.

Antony,

Maybe meeting at Thermos' we could bang out some work on both your AND his tanks? He is short on space for 3 fatties like us and 2 "in process" fuel tanks to be bumpin' around in that workshop, but I think it's do-able!

Hmmmm, the most time consuming part of the deal is the prep. If I just did the bucking and you guys prepped and mixed it could be a smooth operation!

We find it to be effective to do 2-3 ribs per session.

Dunno about the party. I need to run it past the entertainment department. I may come up stag. If so, we could do some ribs before the party too! Hmmmm, call me this weekend! I will be around.
