shipping question

Post by tshort »

Has anyone ordered any "long" items from Van's?
I need some P4 hinge to allow for the edge distance when I attach my flaps. I was wondering how they would ship this and what the cost would be (it is 6' in length).
I was thinking about adding some misc stuff (angle stock, etc) if it wouldn't really change the shipping cost much. I hate to bother Van's with this question if somebody has already had experience with it...

Thomas,

I'd get it from Spruce before Van's. I ordered hinge from Sruce last summer for my wingtips, and if I remember right, the shipping wasn't too bad. If I can remember to do so, I'll check my reciepts when I'm home for lunch today, and get you the exact amount. Spruce was a bit cheaper as well...

We buy small lots of bar stock from various sources and it's normally shipped in cardboard tubes, which go UPS with no problem and little packaging weight.

Van's will probably ship in a plastic tube made from a piece of plastic plumbing pipe. I ordered some angle from them and that is the way it came. The first shipment looked like it was caught in the lift gate of the truck, it was bent and crushed. VAn's replaced it immediately and I got to keep what was left of the original shipment.
