Rudder cable rubbing

In my 7A, the rudder cable seems to be hitting the side of the bushing as it passes thrugh the first side bulkhead. Is anyone else finding that?

And at the exit point near the tail, it seems to want to catch the skin at the very back of the exit hole. Has anyone had to enlarge that area?

Great timing on this question....I just put the rudder cables in last night. At the exit point I extended the plastic bushing until the exit point. I am going to cover this with the Avery rudder cable fairings (http://www.averytools.com/p-710-rudder-cable-fairing-sets-for-rvs.aspx). I believe the location of the plastic bushing on the cable is indicated on one drawing. Here is how mine looks:



As far as the front interference goes, did you notch back the F-902 bulkhead? Here is how mine looks:

I did the exact same thing as Mike did with the plastic bushing at the rear exit. I used fairings also, and they cover up the plastic nicely.

I didn't notch that. I'll have to check the plans for that. But that's not where it's rubbing.... basically it's not going throgh the center of the bushing hole. I suppose I could try to bend the tabs on the rudder pedals a bit.

I don't think there is anything you can do about it rubbing the bushing. Since the cables basically make a shallow bend at the 705 bulkhead, the cables will have to rub the bushing at one of the bulkheads, whether it's the 904 (5?), 704 or 705. It might rub the plastic down over time, but it's not something that can't be checked at each condition. Mine rubs too...

This is common -- I think most folks put some silicone tubing or similar through the first snap bushing in that forward bulkhead to prevent the cable end from catching on the bushing. I'll have to check, but I am pretty sure mine hit the snap bushings too. You really don't notice this until you rig the cables up to the rudder and start "playing" around.

I think these work well. Many others have used them, just be sure that the ends won't snag/catch on any of the bulkhead bushings.
