Short trim cable

Post by jim_geo »

Today I made a very unpleasant discovery and feel that in some way Vans' could do a better job of information dispersal. I'm posting this in hopes that others avoid having the same thing happen to them. Upon rigging my elevator controls I began connecting my manual trim cable only to discover that it was to short to reach the trim tab properly. Turns out that in my case since I'm using a high pressure fuel pump, shown below, I need some additional length on the trim cable. FYI high pressure fuel pumps are used with injected engines.

I called Vans' tech support and the solution is to use the trim cable for an RV8, it's longer by ten inches. So they're sending me one and I am returning the short standard one. What a POS that is, I ran that cable almost a year ago and it was a fair flog to get it back out. The only thing that made it remotely pleasant was the fact that everything has to come back out for me to paint anyway. Well the warning is, if you're building a 7 and you're going to use an injected engine and you're going to use a high pressure pump and mount as shown (which is according to plans) just make the trade right now and save yourself some grief.
