when placing extra holes in a rib how close can you come to existing openings without creating a problem?

Looks good to me! Of course, I don't know what I'm taking about.
I put conduit holes in my ribs too. About 5 minutes later, I discovered a note from Vans suggesting where to put conduit holes ... and of course it was different than the place I picked. I sent a note and picture to Vans, they replied that my holes were OK. That let me sleep peacefully at night.
You might want to go back to the designer. Send the picture and question to Mr Bearhawk, see what those good folks have to say. Hey, I bet they want to hear from you too!
