Radius trailing edge elevators

Post by gsimatos »

On the elevator skins you need to bend the trailing edge once the stiffeners are in but while the text describes the correct radius on the plans i don't see that specific item/drawing on the plans. Down the road the flight testing comments on potential problems if the angle is not acute enough. Can anyone tell me where the bending info is or how you determined how much bend is correct?? Thanks G

G, I laid a drill bit in there and had it match up.

Works for me!

There are full size drawings in the plans. I bent mine until the bend, and the radius, matched the drawing.

G, my mistake...I'm thinking of the ailerons and flaps. I'll have to go back and see what I did to get 'em right.

In your builders manual there are hand drawn pictures of what you are after along with a short explantion. Those pictures can be found toward the front section before the step by step info but after the sample RVator.

Just take your time on it, and it will turn out fine. That's what I did, and it worked!

There is at least one picture that I've posted somewhere here on RB of me using a hand seamer to crisp the tangent point of the elevator TE. If you do that, use some caution and soften the bite of the seamer with padding of some sort. If you don't you will get little uneven bite marks at the outside edges of the seamer that would look like little dings.

A few hours later....
