Firewall recess fit issue

Post by cjensen »

I've read most of the posts about this on the forums, but it doesn't seem as though there's a real definitive answer here. The pic below shows the recess cleco'd with 3/32 cleco's. If the remaining 1/8th cleco's are installed, the upper FW gets distorted.

Here you can see what I'm talking about. Like others have mentioned before, the holes are about a half hole off. If a cleco is installed here, the rest of the holes across the top get pulled out of alignment.

Just one hole?

Use a slanted rivet! ;-)

On occasion, we had to match a hole in a new part with an old hole that may have been elongated, or even figure eight shaped.

we had procedures where we would eventually make it all line up using drill bushing with a bushing fixture and an end mill.

not knowing enough as to what types of tooling is available to you makes it difficult if I could expain it to you.

Chad, what... you don't OWN a BIG HAMMER!?!

Seriously, I am willing to bet that this will come into place after it is match drilled and dimpled. Mine wasn't "ideal" either but after a little buffing and polishing... ya know!

Give it a whirl. What do ya hafta lose?
