Electronic heated pitots

Post by Spike »

Im getting ready to order my pitot tube and am leaning towards the Falcon tube with the gretz mount. However, Dynon has announced that they are shipping their heated pitot tubes now.

What gets me is that like the Gretz tube, it is electronically controlled. I cant seem to get past this. When I flip that switch I want to know for a fact that the tube is getting warm. The idea of being overidden by a chip doesn't sit well with me.

Anyone agree or disagree? I guess Im curious as to where others fall. It might be nice to have that AOA combi pitot tube in case I go with an AOA later.

I didn't know they were electronic. It would seem to me the less connections in the system the better. Have you asked these companies about any failsafe measures they have built into their products?

I agree with you...

I just don't see the need for electronically controlling the temp of the pitot.

Yah, I know. It saves power. That falls into the "who gives a crap" category, as far as I am concerned. It isn't like we are paying per KwH anyways!
