Leak testing tanks ...

my turn to leak test

Guys:

I am leak testing this weekend. So far things look pretty good. I was able to eliminate the leak around the cover by tightening the stop nut on the inside a bit.

However, I also have a leak on my right tank around the tank drain. I am hesitant to seal that with proseal since in my experience you have to replace these things occasionally.

Does anyone have any suggestions for sealing the drain valve that will still allow removal for replacement?

I don't think Fuel Lube is made anymore. Its replacement is Fuel Lube. Go ahead and buy a tube of it. You will need it for other stuff down the road. Spruce sells it:

Let's hope that's the only place you are leaking from!

Huh? LOL! Thanks Mike, I got the idea from the link. I will grab a tube.

So far that all that's leaked. I am thinking of taking a tank to the airport, putting 10 gallons in it and letting it sit for a few days before emptying it and mounting it.

Why bother? Air will leak WAY before gas does! Make a manometer and let that sucker sit for a few days. If you really did a good sealing job, the water level will RISE with increase in temperature and lowering of barometric pressure.

I am concerned that spraying soap and water onto the surfaces has potential for error as does the manometer method. I may miss a slow air leak with the sprayed soap method, and to be truly accurate the manometer method needs to be adjusted for pressure and temperature. Fuel contains blue dye which will manifest itself as a stain at the area of the leak. That should be pretty foolproof.

Haha. I just caught that one. EZ-TURN is Fuel Lube's replacement. Man, I am glad I made that slip up on this board. If I did it on Doug's site, I would of been blasted by every RV god out there!

Speaking of EZ Turn, has anyone else noticed how it looks and feels almost exactly like Vaseline? I wonder... Naw, nevermind.

if it feels like vaseline you better get a new tube...or maybe i should. mine is thick like tar...

Mine looks a little like vaseline, but is way sticky'er ;)
