Canopy Initial Cutting

Post by AirWolf »

I am at the point that I need to do my initial cutting of the canopy on my RV-9A Tip-up. The plans say to trim the excess material (clamping area) off of all sides (sorry I don't remember the exact wording).
When I look at the canopy frame I see an area with some ridges that go all around the canopy, which I'm assuming were the clamping areas.

The picture above shows what I am talking about.

Now, should I remove all of that material so that I have cut up to the top of that marking? I sure don't want to screw this up.

Thanks,
Ron

I havent done anything with a 9 canopy though I have helped a friend with his 8 canopy. I would approach that line slowly and cautiously. With the 8 we cut off the flanges around the bottom and then worked our way up towards the "somewhere in the ballpark" line cautiously.
