aileron pushrods - Riveting On Ends

Post by aparchment »

Tonight I went back to do something I have been dreading for a while, and I still have no idea how I am going to finish.

I am riveting the threaded ends into the aileron pushrod tubes and making a mess of it. I can't squeeze them since the 4-12s are too long for my squeezer and driving them is proving to be a challenge because the rods are turning in my vice.

Any suggestions?

Antony

I think John did a thread on this somewhere, so I am going to look for that.

And in case anyone is wondering . . . it's got an 11.

I'll stop talking to myself now.

As I recall - Cap't John squeezed them in his vise.
Other's have used their C-Frame...
I'm torn between C-Frame or having someone weld them - but leaning toward welding.

Best of luck - what ever you decide...

WOW.
Looks expensive. Someday maybe I can afford one.
I just called Vans today, and changed my QB RV8 fuselage order to slow build to save the 5000 bucks. Things are tough.

Keep an eye out...used ones pop up every once in a while. I sold mine for $250 when I was done with it...

As far as switching from a QB to SB...if you like to build things, this will be a decision you won't regret!!

QB's are a five grand premium now, huh? Sheesh! :o

Yeah, $5K and then there is the shipping. My friends tried to talk me into the QB and then I thought of all the goodies I could buy the wife for $5K and decided against it. :lmao:

Thats also why I didnt get the D-R2D2 thingy. Real men use a hammer.

Spike,

I see that you have been sufficiently lambasted by your wife for the obviously lame excuses as to why you didn't purchase the DRDT2, so I will let those slights pass.

However, I would like to point out that it takes a reasonable amount of masculine force to squash a 4-11 rivet with a DRDT2 that isn't anchored to the ground. Were it not for my married status and over developed right arm, I might have had to anchor it to the ground and use body weight to accomplish the task. Have no doubt that this use of the DRDT2 is truly masculine -- ar, ar, ar.
