Landing light / AOA port placement.

Post by Spike »

Have any of you placed an AFT AOA port in the same wing with a landing light? I am curious what the physical relationship was to the different devices. Did you place them in the same LE bay or did you separate them, etc?

Haven't done it myself yet, but coming to that point in my wings and had the same question. I couldn't see anything in the install manual, but found this is in the archives of the AFS support forums:

No, the landing lights are far enough in front of the ports that they will not cause any interference. The RV calibration data that we use came from a plane with the Duckworks landing lights.

My AFS AOA port is right behind my duckworks landing light with no problems.

AOA & Ldg Light

Post by Bob Barrett »

I placed my Duckworth landing lights in the outer pay of each wing. My AOA is the first bay of the wing left of the fuel tank. Intially I installed my standard Van's pitot tube in the same location. When my daughters, son and their spouses bought me a Dynon 10A I decided to purchase the angle of attack and used the same hole. I had to enlarge it for the mast but that way they are a couple of bays apart. I prefer not having things like that lined up but it probably doesn't make a lot of difference. You might want to ask the DAR that you plan to use what she or he might think.
