Thatcher question, though not specific to the airplane...

Post by cjensen »

The Thatcher uses Facet fuel pumps and a gascolator just like the RV's do (or some do), and my question has to do with the order in which fuel flows thru these things. The original builder of the airplane ran the fuel from the tank, to the gascolator, then thru two Facet pumps, then to the carb, like this...

I have since moved one of the fuel pumps inside the cabin and the gascolator to the center of the FW, because Dave Thatcher didn't like how one of the pumps and gascolator were sitting right above the exhaust. So now I have the routing set up to go tank, to pump one, to the gascolator, to pump two, then to the carb.

Anyone see any issue with that? My RV is the same way, but instead of the second Facet pump, it of course has an engine driven pump. The Thatcher's that I've seen pics of have the fuel flowing from tank to pump to pump to gascolator to carb. Confused yet???

To me it seems fine, but thought I'd check...

I'd say the changes you made would be just fine. Glad you made those changes.

That's how I feel about it, but wanted to bounce it off you guys.

Couple of pics of the change...

Pump one inside now-

Gascolator and pump two in the middle of the FW-

The fuel pressure line is still a bit close to the exhaust, so I'll put a shield there to protect it.

I think it is a good step. The pump will work better/longer when it doesn't have to pull so hard.

Cool to see you working on it!!
