thinking straight?

Post by Joe Parish »

What have others done. The obvious seems to just put the universal head thru the back of the spar and drive it that way. I can not see any reason to mess with that radius. Have not tried to drive one with the universal head on the back side yet so not sure if that radius will mess with the shop head. This part is match drilled from the spar so I assume I am not the first to encounter this. What say you? This is on the inboard edge of the flap spar. Sorry about the big pic, I could not get it to resize any smaller.

I would say flip it as long as you have clearance on the back side. Also make sure that you read the plans closely. If the hold is placed correctly then there very well might be a notation to flip the rivet.

radius block.

take a thick piece of aluminum with a hole in it to slip on the rivet under the head. sand/grind/mill one edge of the block you make down so it fits nicely into the radius of the extrusion.

Drove them from the back and ended up not being an issue? I thought at the time the radius would interfere with the shop head. So I was wrong again.

Thanks Chad. Been away from the shop to long. Getting back into the out in the shop every night routine. We all know it's not going to build itself and what fun would that be?

Thanks Spike. Feels good to be building consistently again. At least working toward that. Little progress since Mid May.

That does look nice and flipping the rivet so the tail is in the radius is fairly common.
