Great way to cut AL angle

Post by cjensen »

A friend of mine, Rob Johnson (RV-7), did this a while back, but I kept forgetting to buy one. Tonight at Menard's aviation isle, I picked up a metal cutting disk for my mitre saw. Works great!!

Anyone else doing this? It makes a much smoother cut than the band saw, and I don't have an 8" restriction this way.

I've used mine several times with the carbide wood blade. Just went real slow and it cut fine. I was planning on going to Harbour Freight and buying one of those little chop saws that use the cutoff wheels. I saw one on someones website but don't remember which one. It looked pretty slick and also was reasonably priced. I never thought of getting a metal cutting disk for the current saw. Might have to kick that aorund some.

the harbor freight 14" metal cutting saw is only like $40. I've had one for awhile.

Yup, that works very well! I was doing a big HVAC job and used carbide tipped blades too. Less dust and faster cutting in 1.5" angle and larger. For the plane, I use the SawZall and 18 tooth blades.

It is all good! Just pick one method that works well for you.
