Fuselage Stands

Post by Guest »

I have seen on a web site or two how some people are using engine stands to hold up the fuselage, I like the idea but I want to be able to do more. I want to have the height adjustable as well as rotate the fuselage. I don't like the idea of having the tail unsupported while rotating the thing around or raising it up and down so my idea includes 2 stands that are basically the same thing, one at each end. Any way I have now finished up the design and made some detail drawings. I hope my less than professional detailing can be forgiven, when I'm not getting paid, that level of detail is too much work and I find it's not really necessary most of the time.

One thing I'm not sure how much I like. If you look at the close up and cut away images you will see my solution to stop the red tube from slipping out of the blue tube, if the clamp on the blue tube isn't tight enough. The only problem I see with this, is if you do actually rotate the fuselage enough times in the same direction, you could unscrew the eye bolt holding it in, or you could screw it in all the way and snap the eye off. I don't think that will be a problem, since it would take 15 or more complete rotations in the same direction. The only other idea I have for a safety, to stop the red tube from inadvertently falling out of the blue, requires some machining and I don't want to do that if I don't have to.

Images and the drawings in a pdf file with notes can be found here...

I don't need one yet so I haven't built it. I would love to see photos if anyone makes one for their project.

I have to run my local server on a non standard port and some ISPs and businesses have fiewalls that don't let users get to web sites on non standard ports so I coppied it to my other web server. If that link doesn't work for you try this...

Hey thats a pretty decent idea. Is it possible to raise the airplane one end at a time without binding that system up? With any amount of rotation?

That's not a problem at all, and exactly the kind of thing I wanted to be able to do with it.

How about these fuselage stands?

No, they are not mine, nor do I know the builder. They just look VERY cool and very functional for the price.

Footnote: They also look like they could be built very easily, for about $20 in steel. :!:
