My bench dimpler
My bench dimpler
Here's my home-made bench dimpler.
I have about $45 in this. $12.50 in the steel, and $32 for the upper and lower sets from Aircraft Tool Supply.
As you can see from the pic, I did put the angle on the base to aid in getting those holes that are hard to get near trailing edges. I also added some felt to that angle to prevent scratches. There is a 1/2" bolt in each of the pillars, with the nuts attached inside the upper tubing.
I do want to thank Phil Cobbin for giving some advise for this. Mine isn't quite as robust as his, but this will do everything I need it to do. I have a 21" throat, so it should reach everything.

Nope, there are no welds in this design. The two pillars are attached using 1/2" bolts inside of the square tubing. The bolt fits nice n snug inside, and is attached to the upper arm with nuts inside of it. The bolts go through the base, into the pillar, and through the bottom of the upper tube. It is VERY tight, and therefore, VERY strong. I can't get that arm to budge AT ALL!
Since have never even touched a welding torch, I had to come up with something else, and this is the result.

Wyatt is starin' at that handle thinkin' where could I bury that, and drive dad crazy lookin' for it
As for painting the airplane...I have sooooooooooo many idea's, but those colors have been thought of. Right now, I'm thinking of a copy warbird scheme of some sort. Who knows...
The paint on the dimpler was just something to cover the grey primer. I like it though! Plus, I'm a Cub fan, so that was the main influence.
