Dremel Tool
Dremel Tool
Gentlemen,
I've purchased a Dremel tool on the advice of other builders, but I must say I'm mildly disappointed in its utility. Mainly, I was planning on using it for edge deburring, but the truth is I find my die grinder (equipped with a sanding barrel and scotchbrite wheels) produces far superior results.
Aside from being able to debur without the use of an air compressor, is there any other advantage I'm missing in this tool? To those out there who have one, what are your favorite attachments to the Dremel?
As always, thanks guys.

Ohhhh yahhhh... It is the greatest thing for airplane building since the pneu squeeze.
I never use it for edge deburring. The scotchbrite pads wear out very quickly for that purpose and it is more efficient to edge debur in other fashions. The scotchbrite "puff" isn't pictured here, but it fits onto the 402 mandrel. It is really handy for small finishing jobs.

The abrasive wheel (426) that Thomas spoke of also fits this mandrel. I too use it all the time. It is easier to use than a hacksaw when fiddling with small parts. Get some of those.
The side cutting burs (193, 194, 196 & 115 as well as the funky shaped ones) are indispensable for opening up already cut holes, slots and apetures and shaping solids.
Drum sanders (407, 408 & 432) debur and trim.
An assortment of Aluminum Oxide and Silicon Carbide stones are GREAT for deburring steel weldments and trimming steel stuff. You don't want to use a hole deburring tool on steel. It will dull VERY quickly! Use this instead.
A 198 & 199 will do some aggressive aluminum cutting. It is redundant to the 426 wheels but is still fun to use. It is like a thin side cutting bur.
How is that for a start, Rudy?

Chad, the wing rib deburring goes MUCH faster with the 6" wheel on the grinder.
ALSO, I know that this makes good sense and you probably already knew it but I am gonna say it anyways... debur BEFORE fluting them!

The lowly swivel deburr tool will deburr a lightening hole, well, like lightening.
