i'm real close to dropping an order on one of these, but before i do...what's invovled in making the frame if i order the head kit?
CJ, do you have more pics and explaination of how you built yours? i see you used "I" frame steel instead of square tubing. is it welded or bolted together?

Chad, mine is the DRDT 1 which has been since upgraded in design to the 2 model. The 2 has a box tube design which is stronger and flexes less.
The plans are pretty straightforward and I am sure your welder could fab one up, but if it came to someone else zapping it up or buying one... I would give Paul Merems the loot for the prebuilt unit.
I don't have any pics of the process, but it wasn't hard with a little bit of skill. I did mine BEFORE starting on the kit. I may think twice about making a tool now that aircraft production is underway. I try to keep anything from getting in the way of the kit's progress. It doesn't always work out that way.
Buy the kaboodle from Paul.

Chad, you will love the tool. I built the body on mine and if doing it again would just order it complete as I only saved about $30 and spent to much time on it.cjensen wrote:yeah, after a bunch of reading this afternoon, i came to the same conclusion. i'm ordering one!![]()

Great dimples everytime!

I have the pre-built DRDT-2 and it is AWESOME!!! I was just dimpling downstairs (at 12:21 am) and no one in the house is complaining!
I'm not smart enough to say if it gives a quality dimple or not but from an ease of use standpoint alone I think it's well worth the additional cost over a traditional C-Frame!

i DO love my homebuilt c-frame...but my wife doesn't.
it works great, and i'm gonna keep it in case i need to set a rivet with it (plus, it's a great conversation piece!). i told brit how many holes get dimpled in the wing skins, and she asked about "that loud thing that you hit with a hammer". hey, if she says it's too loud to use, i can't argue with that...i just have to spend $350 to make it be quiet. i don't think she was all that thrilled about that, but she wants less noise...

you and me both, thomas!! paul should get my check today, so i hope to have it mid next week. he said he had several unclaimed from his march production run, so we shouldn't have to wait long.tshort wrote:After hearing all the hoopla about this thing I broke down and ordered one last night ... I'm just ready to dimple all the skins for the wings / LE / tanks. Hopefully it is worth the $$...
