My Hangah pics!

Post by captain_john »

Well All, I am STOKED!

It ain't much, but it's mine! It is official, I bought my hangar tonight!

Image

It is a Port-a-Port and probably the least expensive hangar one could find anywhere. It is a 1978 and needs some welding, painting and heat. No doubt, it is a fixer-upper.

Here is the view from the helicopter:

Image

Bill H. will soon occupy it and fly his RV-6 from it. Finally, a place I can call home.

It is right in the middle of the field at Plymouth!

Image

It will be some time before my project is there, but in the meanwhile I am glad that Bill can use it!

Interior pics to follow.

Cool, huh?

Nice! Sorry I missed your call earlier, I'm guessing I know what it was bout now.

That will be even more incentive for you to get the plane done. I have no idea where I'll house mine when I get done. I suppose I better decide before to long as I'm not sure if there is a waiting list or not.

Need an old fridge, guys. Anyone got one local? Let the word out!

Today I am hanging the 8' two lamp High Output fluorescents that I got for THE GOOSE! Not a bad deal, huh?

The place is gonna be bright with 5 of those in it!

Sweet John! I missed your call last night as well...was painting F-721B side rails, and the phone was inside.

Looks great! I'm sure you'll make that 'oldy, but goody' a fine place to hang out!!

I'm envious that you have a place to keep yours already! 8) 8) 8)

Congrats John. One less thing to worry about it, or one more depending on if you're a glass half empty instead of half full type of guy :).

So how long from doorstep to hanger ?

Thanks Guys!

Travel time is less than 25 minutes. Not a hop, skip or a jump but, not difficult either.

I can either take the highway, backway or a dirt trail to get there.

Today I will be doing some welding. I need to make a structural repair that should take a couple of hours and then I will start hanging the lights.

Plymouth, MA airport is really one of the few really cool GA fields in the Northeast. Lemme tell ya, there is no tower (not that I am afraid to talk on the radio) to deal with, big criss-crossing runways that are in great shape, food on field, improvements are going on, the airport manager WELCOMES GA and LIKES RV'S!!!

There are 2 other airports near me that are only slightly farther away that are really nice too. WS is over at New Bedford (KEWB). Hyannis-Barnstable (KHYA) is the other one. KHYA actually has scheduled service to the islands. Too much going on there for my likes.

My neighbor has an RV-4 that he bought and the others are relatively quiet.

I am usually there, so if you are coming to town... lemme know!

I will take some new pics soon and post them here!

CONGRATS John,

I'll bet your so glad it's a done deal and it's finally yours.
That's great that Bill's 6 will keep it company until yours is ready to go there.

I guess I'll have to just plan on putting my 8 inside with Sandpiper for now. But if Rob (RV-7A from Westport) and I can get a T-hangar at EWB I'm sure we'll do that together in the near future.

Like everywhere else in the NorthEast, hangar's at EWB are hard to come by.

You pretty much have to grab hangars when you can. I got one at KPOU and I probably won't need it for at least another 4-5 months, but I didn't want to chance not getting it when I need it.

Like hen's teeth, as they say!

The airport commission is only allowing 5,500 sq. ft. units OR LARGER to be built new! I am fortunate to get this one.

Here are some inside pics after some huffing and a buffing. Thanks to Bill H!

Any hangar which has some association with soaring must be good!

How do you get the wings past those red posts? I assume they move, but then what supports the front?
Looks good ... now all you need is a beer fridge and you're ready to go!

Thomas, Good question!

Those are there only for snow load. Normally, you leave them out. Seeing as there is no aircraft in there, I have them in place.

Thermos, we are working on all the amenities!
