Corrosion

Something interesting here to note. I had heard rumors that the ink that is used to mark the 2024 from the factory could cause surface corrosion of the aluminum if left on too long or if the blue film was left on too long. I never thought too much about it, until now.

Unpacking my tail kit parts from the move (boxed ~5 months) I found surface corrosion in exactly those spots, much of which were no longer covered by the blue film. Pictures below. Its nothing that a bit of scotchbrite wont dress out, but I still found it quite interesting. I think once my wing kit comes Im going to clean as much of that stuff off as possible.

Here is a picture of my rudder counter balance skin, notice the '03' in '032'. This part had been fully prepped (except priming/alodine) and the blue film was removed.

Here is a better shot of it up close and personal. The first number you see is the '3' followed by the '2', which is not nearly as bad.

Pretty wild 'eh?

Hmmm, odd... mebbe it is water based? I know it does rinse away with water but not with some chemicals. Weird stuff, huh?

I had some corrosion on a part that was leaning on the floor in the corner of my shop for a few months. The part that was exposed to the air (detatched portion at outer edge) exhibited these signs, but not under the plastic.

That IS weird! Like you say, nothing that a little prep won't cure.
