Introducing.....the P factor------>

Post by aerial »

Hi all,

Image

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is David and I am a student pilot with 15 hours in a Cessna 150 :oops: . I live in California in Southern Humboldt county near a class G airstrip called Shelter Cove. I got "hitched" on August 1st and received this beautiful 1947 Aeronca 11AC (it came with the "Yellow Baron") :) as a wedding present. In anticipation of being a high flyer and needing a cross-country plane (to visit new relatives in MN of course :roll: ), I also purchased a partially completed RV-4 kit. I have a IO-320 for the 4 and plan on putting a CS prop on it, and IFR.

I have put the flight lessons on hold until the Sport Pilot rating is finalized (any-time now) and instructors become available as that is all I will need to fly the Aeronca while I work on the RV. The extra money saved will go into finishing the house and more RV parts :mrgreen: .

I'm really giddish....I got the Aeronca fired up in my garage today and it runs beautifully. I couldn't resist and took it up to 2000rpm (with the tail tied to my truck in the driveway) and tail came right off and swung right. She wants to fly. All I have to do is finish the right wing dope, paint, some odds and ends....and I'll be "up there".

Happy New Year.

p.s. I probably won't be much help on the site until I get some other projects finished and I start working on the RV.

Welcome Aerial!! :thumbsup:

Are you getting any help with rebuild of the Aeronca? And dont worry about contributing much as far as RV building, you will one day. In the mean time stick around, watch us build, watch us crew up, and learn. You can pass it on one day. Besides, you might be able to pass info on as you restore that Aeronca! Wish I had been given a wedding gift like that!

Welcome Aerial, and I have to say, that may very well be the coolest wedding gift in this or any other universe! Picture slipping that little sweetheart into a grass strip somewhere secluded.... :luv:

No not currently. I am hoping to find an A&P after I get the wing back on. The motor only has 212 hours after a major overhaul. Upgraded with 75hp pistons. The logs say new fabric in 1991, and hangared mostly, it seems in good shape. The plane was tipped up in a strong windstorm at Marysville and dinged the wing. The repair on the wing has the FAA sign off. The one wing needs a couple more coats of polyfiber dope and some paint to finish. I am hoping to get an annual on it without having to do much more. I would like to just fly it (if she's airworthy) and work on the RV before investing more in it at this time. I've found some great guys on the Aeronca mailing list, hope to get some pointers.
