Any word on our boy Ian?

Last I heard was him saying he was going home soon.

Hope all is well and you are back home Ian.

sorry guys...

I'm home, I got home wednesday morning after surgery late tuesday night. They closed me up and left me with a surgical drain, which is coming out this wednesday. I'm getting more ambulatory, and I actually was able to fly 11.2 hours this weekend :D

Hopefully I'll be up to finishing my dang fuel tank this week!

yea, flying's a piece of cake :) I even flew a week after my accident, before I went back in the hospital the second time!

I'm flying with another pilot though, not taking any chances. We made two runs this weekend, friday night down to ocala, fl to pick someone up, and saturday night out to sumter, sc to see some folks.

The florida trip was interesting, originally we were gonna fly Dan's Arrow, but we got off the ground and the gear wouldn't come up, so we aborted. We took my cherokee instead. Ended up taking a LOT longer than we had hoped :) We flew IFR and got an hour of actual, that was fun.

Glad to hear that you're back on your feet, Ian!

I haven't been following all of your medical adventures since I've been busy at work, so ignore me if you've heard this before. As we found out during Spike's hospital stay last year, there are times when the FAA expects that you voluntarily ground yourself. If you haven't already, call AOPA and get their opinion -- they'll help you understand the regs and make sure your @ss is covered. Merely being hospitalized resulted in Spike grounding himself (at the advice of AOPA) until he had a note from his our primary care doc that he could return not just to normal duty but specifically to flying. Due to the timing involved (his medical expired in December of last year) it came up during his exam.

Patti,

I imagine that the first time I flew, a week after my accident, I probably ought to be self-grounded. At this point, I'm pretty much fully recovered, and I'm not too worried about it. However, it's moot, because I haven't flown solo at all, I've had another rated pilot as PIC at all times, so I'm most certainly covered :)

oh and also, I'm going wednesday for my followup and to have my surgical drain removed, and I'll ask my doc about putting something in writing about returning to flying. That should cover me in the future.
