blew a tire

Post by tmbg »

Blew a tire on landing last night.... or on rollout I guess; everything seemed fine at first, as I rolled out I noticed it shuddering a little, and thought 'oh shit, I blew a tire didn't I'. Sure 'nuff, it started pulling to the right and slowing down more rapidly than it oughta.

Didn't damage anything (other than the tire of course). However, I had to sit on the damn runway and wait for dan to come rescue me. It was 2am. Called atlanta approach and told them what was going on so they didn't route any traffic to the airport.

Dan showed up, but he didn't have a proper dolly, so we put it on the roller base to a big trash can and towed it with a lektro. I was at the far end of the runway, and we had to tow it over a mile. The plasticky wheels on our dolly substitute melted away.

What a freakin hassle :(

yeah, I decided that I'm gonna build a main wheel dolly to keep at KRYY for stuff like this in the future.

I'm glad it happened at home. Away from home, or absent being able to call Dan for help, I think I could have gotten atlanta approach to get the airport manager on the phone to come help.
