rvproject.com is gone

Post by RV9inIowa »

It's a sad day... I suspect rvproject.com was responsible for a lot of new builders (me includes. There are lots of other sites but I liked looking at Dan's. Anybody know why he took it down?

He said it had run its course and he wants his privacy back.

It was a good resource but there are plenty more out there to pull from...

Missing the W&B database

Post by Lycosaurus »

There are other sites, however Dan had a good database of W&B. It helped me configure the plane with options to get the empty/full CofG I wanted.

I don't think that database can be had anywhere else, as it was entered by individuals as they completed their projects.

I've contacted Dan about making that available somehow--here, VAF, Yahoo, even Weathermeister...waiting for a reply.

I happened to copy the 5 or 6 RV-8As right before he took it down, but it's very useful info for everyone.

other builder resources?

Post by bruceh »

When was the last time that the lists of builder web pages was updated?

http://rivetbangers.com/BuilderResources.shtml

Might be time for a clean up. I would love to have a definitive list of builders web pages, or is this just too crazy given how big the web has become?

I too am going to miss Dan's rvproject.com pages. I think it took me almost 3 months to read through it all. I began to realize that I could do this and build my own plane. Great resource that will be missed. I've seen a lot of web sites, but that one was the most comprehensive.

If he simply removed any means of contacting him, he could have left it up.

It was a useful site, and it's too bad he took it down. That said, I think Dan did the site for Dan. Like Dave said, if he did it to help the RV community he could have removed the contact info and personal stuff and either left it up or let someone else host it as a reference site.
