Black Friday almost was
Well, reporting back with the first engine start! Though, it wasn't intentional.
Rotax manual says to either pull the prop through by hand 30 - 60 times or make sure the ignition is off, engage the starter and turn the prop that way. I elected to turn by hand. Getting tired after about 40 turns I decided to do the rest by using the starter. I made sure my mags were off, and hit the starter. On the third blade she roared to life!! IN MY HANGAR!!
Now luckily it was chocked and the throttle was at idle but it took my 5 whole seconds to figure out that the mag switches were mounted UPSIDE DOWN. I flipped them up to the ON position and the engine and the brisk breeze came to a stop. Two buddies came from the other row of hangars and asked me how I got the plane put away so quickly... the engine noise had just stopped.
After telling them the story and calming down we pulled the plane out of the hangar and started it properly this time. It started almost immediately. Not used to that after years of Lycomings. It did seem to idle a little rough so I didn't want to taxi it. It all the excitement I never looked at any of the engine gauges.
With just a cursory inspection today I found that the carbs were not mechanically synced. I fixed that and will also do a pneumatic carb sync that should get them in carbureting harmony.
Just got a few fairings to finish up, need to finish rigging the flight controls, and then it's ready for weight and balance and the feds.

Glad your ok that could have turned out pretty bad couldnt it?!
I lied. The next update is... airworthiness inspection scheduled for 1/18.
They gave me a 40 hour phase 1, and a test area that is a 50 statute mile radius from my home airport (O27). This is a free inspection being done by an FAA employee from Fresno FSDO. He emailed me the limitations ahead of time so I could look them over and ask any questions.
Now we wait... and clean up the hangar

Thanks everyone.
Spike,
This plane took 2 years almost exactly to the day to build. The RV-4 took 5 years. I may have another RV again one day, but I'm going to let someone else build it.

Airworthy!
N612SV received her Special Airworthiness Certificate!! I am no longer a builder, I am an owner! First flight will be in two to three weeks. It is waiting on insurance and addressing the squawks that the FAA guy found.
The biggest squawk in the inspector's mind was that the letters in the word 'EXPERIMENTAL' on the doors were not two inches high. I'll have to order a new label and make sure the letters are the correct height. The second biggest squawk was I neglected to put the red lines on the engine instruments. Oops. He also found a few mechanical items that I went ahead and addressed right after he left.
The genuine Fed inpsector was very polite and carefully explained everything. He made sure I understood he wasn't here to try to trip me up. He spent about 20 minutes going over the plane and about another 20 minutes going over the paperwork. Even going so far as to read the operating limitations to me word for word.
So all in all a very good experience!

Hooray Scott.
Sounds like you had a reasonable guy. Even allowing you to correct squawks prior to first flight, but did not withhold the AW cert and want another confirmation visit. (yeah my guy sucked) I was told they are required to read the limitations out loud to prove they finished the 2nd grade.
Congrats
