New hangar mate

Post by hydroguy2 »

Aurora got a new hangar mate today. It's only temporary while we finish some little things and Travis gets some transition training.

Travis with his new RV-4...well new to him it has 33hrs on the hobbs.

It has a few things he needs to address. wrong prop, wrong spinner, glass work needs finished, no oil door. But overall construction looks pretty good.

The bonus is....I get to do some work building again, and not using my wallet!

Looks good! How do you handle the phase one restrictions? or was it a local plane?

25hr phase 1. I asked the same question when I heard the TT. But it is also quite clear much testing was never done, or if it was it's not recorded. I'll be helping Travis go over the paperwork and get the tests and number he should have.

Crazy that you can get a 25 Phase one with the wrong prop?

Have fun testing!!!

I think it's an approved engine/prop combo, hence the 25hrs. Just not the correct prop for this RV-4. It's a 79" Sens, but the engine can overspeed it easily even up at 12500. He needs more pitch.

The builder also mounted the cowl without the prop installed. When they tried to put the spinner on it didn't fit. So they cobbled a smaller spinner to get flying. It looks awful, not too mention not working properly.

It looks to me the guy did good rivet work, then as things got close to the end and money got tight, he started cutting corners. And did not a clue about fiberglass. luckily he got a better good deal.

I understand now--can you repitch the prop, or does it need a different one?

My RV-6A only had a 25 hour test period but it was a certified engine and a certified Sensinich Propeller as Vans specified. We did run the correct test procedures and had the right spinner etc.

I know! right? you can tell the guy just tossed it together at the end, pretty sure he ran out of money and did whatever he could to get it flying.

I'm more surprised that it was signed off by a DAR without one... :o
