What I did on my April vacation

Post by captain_john »

Whew! What a long week!

Some major MVP (Major Visual Progress) did happen, but not until later in the week. First I had to visit my house up north.

While I was there, the Russkie was looking for a place to eat. He ordered eggs but changed his mind when he saw my special spaghetti alla puttanesca!

Image

The weather was great! He took Michele and I for rides.

Image

The ice went out UNUSUALLY early while we were up there! I think it was the first time in CENTURIES that it disappeared so early! The local children were wading in slushy ice water because the air temps were in the 70's and it felt like summer!

Note the steely glance of the Russian aviator!

Image

A couple of flights proved the winter was really over and the ice was disappearing FAST!

Image

There is no more snow around my little house and it has all turned to runoff. This is my getaway house (the one that looks like a church) in Rangeley, Maine. Maybe this summer I will host an RV Fly-in up there? I have 6 beds in there so we have room for some to spend the night if you like! I also could set up others at the B&B down the street.

Image

We went Moose hunting in the Jeep later in the evening. Vlad had never seen a moose before. He got a few shots off while he was there!

It was then time to come back home and work on the plane. Before I left, the prop went on. We were a little scared that it wouldn't fit correctly...

Image

But in the end, it looks like things will be just fine.

Image

Time for a Harpoon to celebrate. It is Wyatt's favorite! I will be bringing a case of these to OSH for everyone to try in case you haven't ever experienced the BEST ALE EVER!!! Monday night is ale tasting night... right?

Image

The RV got a little sunlight on it's skin while I cleaned the shop.

Image

I had to spin it around in order for the wings to be installed.

Image

Now I need to focus on the systems that are associated with this part of the build. I suppose now I am at the "90% done and 90% to go" part of the build that Mikey Bullock talks about!

Time to get cracking! I still have all weekend left. Maybe I can get the wings drilled?

Looks like your helpers never seen such a spinner before :) Getting closer John keep the speed. My vacation on requested period was denied yesterday so AK trip is scrapped this year. Dang it!!! :x Everything was going so well...

I enjoyed your bungalow visit thanks for everything. You have to stirr an RV gathering in Maine. Time the event to that icy thing with Steve.

There are some steep hills on the way to your spot.

No moose there only hares. Do you see couple of them to the right?

This was what I came for. The breakfast!!!! By the Chef himself! Cabin Fever means that today I am going nowhere. 8 hours rule. :)

We went moose hunting in the evening. Saw couple impressive beasts. Actually IMO, John strategically placed chained mooses along the swampy road by piles of rotten hey and just drove by trying to impress us green tourists. Nobody in the Jeep could spot a moose except John. And he is complaining about aging eyes

Then was little flying and little talk what is better Glock or Makarov.

Then we ate and relaxed. Walked to The Truck.

Then went up again. John took over from the right and I just enjoyed the view. Heavens!

What's the name of that place again?...

Then I went back to beehive. Chop chop chop heli on course reversal landing 33 street. Fixed wing has you in sight. Click click.
