new smart phone

Post by A2022 »

hey, I've been a flip phone guy until last month when they said they would not support it anymore and gave me a whopping smart phone! so, I connected a Bluetooth Rx streaming device optically to my music amp in the loft. wow! the sub-woofer and music quality streaming from my smart phone YouTube blows me away. the acoustic with 6 speakers at the edge of the loft is awesome! any time you can move speakers away from a back wall into the open is better for acoustics and the loft volume itself acts as an acoustic chamber. the addition of the loft has far exceeded my expectations. highly recommended! it is a small simple hangar, but it is becoming nicer and is a pleasure to be inside.

I'm getting ready to add some more light to my hangar. Box in the back blocked by the rudder.

I look back and wonder how I built this plane with this low lighting, but I did.

hit the music and light show

sub-woofer pumping it out and laser lights are in sync. nice with a beer.

a couple new lights added, one of the mid-fuse and another over the engine. needed more lighting over the engine because I still required a flashlight there.

better if back lighting is off. not bad for $40 if you like dancing lights.

Steve,

I like the loft area! Is it tall enough so that you may stand up when you are up there?

I was thinking of doing a similar thing to one of my hangars. How did you go about supporting the structure?

My hangar in Maine could use a little more space and this might just be the ticket!

the posts that support the loft need to be 10 ft to accommodate the tail of a Glastar or Cessna. that does not leave enough room to stand up. I roll around up there in a chair, the base of rolling desk chair with the back removed. it works and is rather nice. make sure the plywood seams are tight to ease rolling and place the edges on the joists. I did and it is good. feel free to stop by and I'll give you a loft tour. I spent 2K to build it 1.5 yrs ago (not including the lighting) but recently someone priced this now at 3.5K. I sent him my rough plans. I assembled the frame on the ground and then disassembled and painted everything, then assembled it in place one stick at a time.

some artwork

Post by A2022 »

added some picture frames, Frank Loudin artwork. if the pictures are not grouped together and spread out like this, they may look better with individual track lighting shining on each picture. I'm thinking about that.

my rule #1 was that everything behind the curtains is on wheels. that's paid off more than once already.

I keep thinking back to how it was before, and no air filter with dust everywhere.

no peg board

going with pine for a backstop and 12 ft shelf. I've always wanted a big, long shelf. for cheap pine, I like a pre-stain conditioner coating, then the gel stain (nutmeg), then the poly. it's ready for poly tomorrow, satin. much satisfaction applying the stain and seeing the wood grain.

shelf layout. I really hate it when I start something and then change it. I need to always do a layout first. need to buy more wood.

4th and final coat on these five boards. I would give myself a 5 out of 10 on this job. my sanding and staining effort could have better, lesson learned. I'll be so glad when I can clear my work benches. if this install goes OK, I'll add one more shelf above in order to have two shelves. note, this urethane is wet and is satin so the gloss will fade away.

change in design, again. the corner is not a good place to work so I'll extend a visual spacer from top to bottom. I'll admit, when I come around the corner and see the stained wood, I get a wow factor, must be the English in me. pictures need to move up and I need more wood. I'll extend the electric under the shelf to the center to of the fwd work bench. I support the Ukranian Army. God bless Ukraine.

design change again after testing. I concluded the lower shelf can be extended out another 2" without a problem with ergonomics. so, the bottom shelf is to be 1 x 12 inch and the top shelf is 1 x 10 inch. I'm trying to make this as usable and pleasant as possible. increased the number of brackets on the lower shelf.
