Auto maintenance - hangar

trying to become faster at my routine auto maintenance at the hangar. today, I pulled the plane out and the car in and checked the clock. oil drained, tires rotated, mass airflow sensor cleaned, spray paint touch up on the frame, check all the water drain holes and blew the leaves out, inspected the brakes, applied AT-205 to the rubber parts, cleaned the windows, and yes, I aired the spare tire. total time = 1 hr 45 minutes. heck, that's faster than sitting in the lobby at discount tire for a free tire rotation. peace of mind knowing it was done correctly.

the weather was too good to be true so I squeezed in a flight after the auto maintenance. it was really busy today, everyone taking advantage of the weather. flying from RW11, in the pattern, and lined up on the ground.... and the Citation says he's on a 5-mile right base for 29, but we beat him down and he submitted to flying the pattern. you could tell in his voice he was thinking why not make the call and give it a try (for RW29). not today Mavrick, the pattern is full. we have a lot of biz jets operating in and out of HAO, from G5's on down, and it's increasing. I think with ADSB we will be able to hold off on getting a tower for a while, I hope so.

my wife's car 2018, 6-month service: oil changed, tires inspected and rotated, AT-205 sprayed on rubber parts, brake inspection, frame inspection and frame paint touch up, air filter inspection, throttle body cleaned, windows washed, carpet vacuumed, interior cleaned. total time was 2.5 hrs. in and out quickly, no appointment needed. the tire dolly made it easy to reinstall the tires. all of our cars are manual shift. this one is fun to drive. using the hangar to the full potential; airplane shop, motorcycle shop, bike shop, car shop and coffee shop! note: wearing gloves will keep your hands clean and always check the stability of the car on the jacks. when the car is on the jacks, check the stability by bumping it with your butt at a door jamb to make sure it is stable. if you are under the car and it comes off the jacks, it can kill you. you can also store the removed tires under the car for some added security. in this case I didn't, but I have done it in the past on occasion.

my neighbor came home last year from the local brake shop. a block from the house, on a snowy day, the brake pedal went to the floor. when he looked under the car, he saw the one of the front calipers hanging by the hose. humm... it's not going to work very long if nuts are not installed on the bolts or bolts are not torqued. in a way, he was lucky. if you go to a brake shop, it wouldn't be out of place to ask if you can verify the caliper bolts are torqued.
