I took a tumble last week on the bike trail going down a gully and I've been thinking about how to ride the "Powerline" trial better. I managed to ride it better this week with no tumbling. stay focused! hey, always wear a helmet on a mountain bike trail.

a little rain on the way out. on departure for home, wind 60 deg from the left 22, G27. left wind is worst case. needed some right brake on takeoff to keep it straight until the rudder became effective. my lucky water bottle returned after being missing for a month. picnic table at the perfect angle. one nose wheel chock kept the plane secure. habanero pain sauce was fresh. I got out early and spent the whole day out and about. I covered about 35 miles today, hiking and biking. not much for real bikers. a very good day.

I learned I can stuff my windbreaker into my helmet when I become hot. it's the little things.

... and the new roll bar hand grip was very good in the windy conditions with a bike on my shoulder.

Columbus Ohio Museum of Art. flew into OSU Airport, $10 landing fee. it's a busy place with lots of jet traffic and flight training. OSU has 3 runways and were using 27 L and R with a high loading. contacted clearance delivery to get out and needed to hold short at a taxi way for a while, a busy place, but friendly. I was number 6 and I felt it was a safe environment. good to see the flight school is rocking, what you see on the ground at the flight school is about the same number they had in the air. the Columbus bike trial was also busy with walkers, bikers, roller blades, etc. everyone seemed to manage it well. I got behind a family of four on bikes. the youngest daughter looked about 13 yrs and they were moving. I tried to hang with them as long as I could. they were fast. I also met another group of bikers at the museum from Toledo that had visited yellow springs the previous day and had a nice conversation about airplanes as they had also visited the Dayton Air Museum. the daughter wanted to be an aircraft tech. I ate the whole pizza. called 15 minutes ahead and it was waiting for me. I could smell it from 300 yards away. Ohio is a nice place to fly and ride a bike! it was a very good day.

the shadows on the some of the paintings was incredible, especially the black dress. I don't know how the artist can do that. detail and precision. makes some aircraft artworks look clownish.

I chocked all the wheels because there were a lot of aircraft on the ramp. the only way the aircraft could move was if a tornado lifted it.

a short but nice ride around Muncie Indiana. weather was 0C this morning but climbed to 11C in Muncie, low winds. it was ideal. after a couple inches of rain this week, everything was clean and fresh. I latched the rudder gust lock rope because they get a lot TBM's there, blasting around.

Ball residences in the photos. from canning jars to AeroSystems. they did it all. amazing bunch. smart and energized.

the Ball family help push PBS television along with Bob Ross, the painter, who filmed his shows in one of their homes. I was amazed that he could put out a painting in 30 minutes that looked good. was it museum grade, no, but what enjoyment he showed in painting. one of his paintings sold for 9.8 million dollars in 2023.

the last photo is where a piper lost power on final for RW3 last week and went into the trees and injured a couple of people walking on the bike path from debris. they will probably get a big settlement.

Columbus Indiana (BAK).... after five days of rain, time to break free. I rode around the loop around the city and saw some of the highlights. very nice. Columbus Indiana is a very nice place and seemed healthy. lots of people out and about and the kids were outside playing soccer, not video games. clean and the drivers were friendly. the bike trail begins and ends at the airport. the hometown of Cummins Diesel. it doesn't get much nicer than today and Columbus IN, spend the day. and yeah, I met a hot mature babe.

the oil looks OK, 44 hours. the nose wheel tire is getting thinner, 1234 hours.

on the way home I saw Greensburg (I34) new runway is completed.

Downtown Cincinnati (KLUK).... a short hop for me but better than driving, as there is no direct route, and driving there seems to take forever. a nice day but very warm for mid-April in Cincy, 30C (86F), with sweat in my eyes for takeoff from LUK. the old terminal at LUK closed when they closed the restaurant there about three years ago. I used to go there all the time. the word from the FBO is that it is going to be refurbished. we will see, but I saw in the paper that CVG is going to take over management of LUK. the bike trail connects at the airport. it is somewhat grimey around there, sewer plant, salvage yards, etc. but it's not bad and cleans up quickly as you move towards downtown. downtown Cincy is nice! a lot of people were out and about. my lucky water bottle went missing for about 3 hours but found me again. two Snickers bars and bottle of water = $2. a very good day! I needed to get back to push the grass before the rains come again tomorrow.

hey, the Ohio River is Big Water! you can ride the bike trail from here all the way across Ohio to Cleveland.

Springfield OH (KSGH)... a nice cool day but windy. I was waiting for the coolness to come back again, since this is just April. 30-minute flight each way but total trip was 8 hours. wheels were up at 8AM. make a day of it and look around and talk to people. pizza was $9 and almost ready when I walked in the door. call 15 minutes out so you are not sitting there waiting. drink a coffee here and there, look at art, eat chocolate and ice cream. lots of fun. a very good day.

Piqua OH (I17, Hartzell Field) to Troy OH (1WF, Waco Field) ... on a bike. I ate too much and had a nice Waco Museum tour by a beautiful lady. Waco Field is private but open to the public. if I were ever to land on grass, this would be the one. the temperatures were perfect, wheels up at 9 AM and returned at 6:30 PM, all day fun. I clocked about 45 miles but at a relaxed pace and the terrain was flat. I didn't feel any strain. I took the Zizzo speedster with the thin tires and that was the correct decision as the trial is well maintained.

The Hartzell facility was spotless. you could eat from the floor, not kidding.

Mt Vernon to Galena Ohio..... a nice ride on a very nice day. I met some good people and ate a mediocre pizza, but at least it was ready for me when I walked in. I clocked at least 55 miles today and it felt good, no straining or burning legs. my wife says it is nothing unless it's 75 miles. I like her attitude. a very good day.

a 45-minute flight to Mt Vernon vs 2.5 hours driving there. flying makes it possible. wheels up at 9AM, back by 6:30 PM sipping on a beer.

I had to walk the bike a mile on the gravel each way to protect the tires.

oil looks OK at 50 hours. my last oil change was at 80 hours but not really needed. I wanted to get the quick drain off the engine and install the factory threaded plug. the NTSB report showed that Martin died because of the leaking quick drain plug.
