new dual fan and herm capacitor ordered on Amazon, same day delivery for less than $20. unbelievable... all working again. I gave the Amazon driver a nice tip. low-cost repair and the wife is happy. a service call was 4 days out and would have been $400. that was easy and I'm a hero, not a zero.

hey, keep a spare AC capacitor on hand. now I do. if the fan or compressor motor fail to start, try a new capacitor firstly.

no way I would fly in these hot conditions. under a canopy would be like an EZ bake oven with sweat pouring in my eyes. I prefer Winter flying any day of the week. I need to fly back to Houghton MI where it's cool and drink beer all day at the Lake Linden American Legion Post 90 bar. they had some homemade potato salad from a girl direct from Germany that was almost too good to comprehend. it's been two years, and that potato salad is stuck in my head and visions of that heavy set redhead woman's crazy eyes boring a hole thru me, both crazy but different IQ.... but not by much.

I've had many capacitors go bad - more so recently - i think they are build in with a ticking time bomb so HVAC professionals can make easy money. What's unfortunate is you can't buy these through local HVAC warehouses without a license - which is complete crap. Thankfully Amazon delivers next day, I'd rather give the money to someone who wants to help me.

Another failure I've come across is a bad fan on the air handler. The two failure modes I've seen is the starting capacitor or the control board. If the control board goes, remember it's just a 120V fan and can be hard-wired to an outlet easily enough. Well easily enough for someone who build an experimental aircraft that is!

a good tip. my wife likes her AC in the summer. many years ago, ours was becoming tired and she urged me to clean the coils as it was very hot outside. so, there we both were by the AC unit with me spraying water onto the coils and around. well, I guess I flooded the relay/capacitor box and the next thing you knew "bang" and puff of smoke and it was dead.
