Fasting - something new for me

Post by A2022 »

so much has been said about the benefits of fasting, I thought I would give it a try as an auxiliary method for body health. I have pushed my weight down into the 170's and it is good. however, I am older now and retired and I don't carry as much muscle mass as when I was younger, so I think a weight in the 160's would be better for me. I have never used fasting as a body health tool except when I have had the flu and could not take any food and it was not voluntary. I have been using intermittent fasting as a tool to push my weight down with a 6-hour eating window per day and generally feel better and have improved energy levels. since I like to ride bicycles, reduced weight will also be beneficial because lighter is always better. on days that I ride a bike, I eat, because of the increased calories needed. I can burn 2000 calories on an all-day bike ride adventure.

so, here are my feelings on a simple 48 hr fast. hey, I am a novice at doing this and I know it's not much, but I am just getting started.

Day 1 - some hunger feelings. at 20 hrs without food I had a metallic taste in the mouth from the Ketone release that means my body has completely switched to burning fat reserves. I feel increased energy levels and a calm. I was able to completely repair a difficult vanity sink faucet/drain/shutoff valves with calm. Normally, I hate doing that kind of stuff.

Day 2 - no hunger feelings. a feeling of calm and clarity. energy levels are good.

Day 3 (tomorrow) - I will fly, ride the bike, burn some calories, and eat.

So much has been said about the benefits of fasting, so I decided to give it a try. This is Day 2 of my 3-day fast, and so far, I feel great—no hunger and plenty of energy. Day 3 will be uncharted territory for me, and I'm curious to see how my body reacts. It's a test. I've been practicing OMAD for about a month now. Yesterday was flying 6 hours with no food all day and I was fine. Today, I'll tackle changing out another bathroom faucet, drain, and valves.

Another benefit I have found is that I no longer have springtime allergies. It was so bad I needed a steroid shot to get me thru the springtime, but not this year. Not needed and no symptoms. I don't understand it, but I will take it.

hey, If Angus can go for a year without food, I should be able to go for 3 days....

chocolate cake is really good after 3 days of fasting. the fasting was very easy for me with no hunger cravings; I mowed the grass, replaced a bathroom faucet/drain/valves, trouble shot the aircraft Wi-Fi system, etc. no low energy effects. perhaps even more energy or at least the same. this was my first ever 3 day fast in my life and I was amazed at the available energy. I learned something. I thought I would be dragging around, nope. the next fast will be 4 days in about a month.

If you go down in an airplane in the wilderness. food is not a major concern. water and staying warm would be my top priorities. hey, the fat you carry on your body is good energy. it just needs to be released.
