It was a simple yet pleasant day. I rode to Caesar Ford Park on a new trail to me, which was remarkably smooth. I spent about an hour on the mountain bike trails; it was the first time this spring that the conditions were dry enough, and they proved to be excellent. After the ride, I found the hot tub and pool to be thoroughly relaxing. I enjoyed a meal followed by a slice of chocolate cake that was almost fudge-like, concluding the day on a delightful note.

On a related note, I am continuing with OMAD (one meal a day), and my weight has now dropped below 169 pounds (6 ft) —all while still enjoying cake. On days that I ride I have found it beneficial to eat some snacks during the day as I can burn 3000 calories. Today, a banana, a couple apples, and a power bar. For reference, Tadej Pogačar's weight = 146 lb (5 ft, 9 inch). That OMAD sure is something, I've never felt better.

It was a misty morning, but I decided to check it out and discovered I could fly IBL (In-Between Layers) in the clear. The weather was perfect for a bike ride, so I cruised over to the Air Force Museum. It was quite busy, but instead of going inside, I explored the nearby Memorial Park. There’s so much to see there, and the immense sacrifice for our freedom is almost beyond comprehension. I enjoyed a nice dinner and made it back to base just as the showers started again. Overall, a great day.

The new clipless pedals were great, and I didn't tip over. What to do when you realize you took two right-handed gloves. Pull the emergency set from the seat back tray.

When you’re doing OMAD (one meal a day) and biking 65 miles fueled by some fruit and a power bar, a good meal at the end of the day tastes incredible.

A final test fit of the local bike rafting gear with everything strapped on. The weather looks promising over the next couple of days. I’m sure I’ll learn something along the way. I plan to do a couple of local test runs before tackling bigger waters. The PFD sure takes up a lot of space, and the raft will ride on the handlebars. I have lost about 15 lbs of fat since ordering this raft so the total weight on the bike will be about the same.

well, there you go... some acoustics engineer making literally millions of dollars with cat-ears for biking. I had to wait about 3 weeks for these because they were on backorder.

wind noise is real and has been measured to be louder than a lawn mower on a breezy day while bike riding and it is painful. noise cancelling ear buds work wonders, and I have them, but they can't get it all. hopefully, these will get the final 20 percent of the wind noise. or perhaps one could just grow some big sideburns.

The final, final, packing fit is done. I like to know exactly where everything will be secured and how best to pack it, so I took an extra day to repeatedly pack and unpack. I’m sure there will still be a few small surprises, but I should be able to handle them. One thing I might try is lowering the front handlebar some amount to mount the raft then raising it for riding. Even with the aft rack mounted to the bike, and the tow bar in the brackets, I do not need to move the seatbacks in order to stow the bike in the baggage area.

It was a beautiful day on the Mad River in Urbana, Ohio. The bike rafting plan worked perfectly. The water was clear and cool. I ended the day with dinner at Abuel's Kitchen (Google rating 4.9), and it was fantastic. The whole day felt like a slice of paradise. I didn't work very hard today. I felt as if I was on a liquid conveyer belt.

I'm getting the bike ready for trout fishing and switched to an inflatable PFD (no whitewater) to make it less bulky. The Mad River, Ohio's top spot for trout fishing, is a spring fed river where brown trout reproduce naturally and are also stocked. For my water shoes, I filed down the pedal pegs on one side and painted that side red.

It was a typical late spring day in Ohio—warm, overcast, with some showers—but I decided to head to the Mad River. The water level was up bit, making for a perfect run. I saw only one other guy, and he had just caught a trout, lifting it to show me. It was black-speckled on silver and absolutely beautiful. I watched him release it, and I would have done the same. Since my fishing gear wasn’t fully ready, I chose to just paddle the river for about seven miles. My only goal today was to move, get some exercise, and have fun. It turned out to be a great day.

The side view of the bike really shows how small it is, but it’s surprisingly capable. When using panniers on a short-wheelbase bike, you need to ensure there’s a way to avoid heel strike. The best solution is to move the panniers aft, though raising them can work too. Still, shifting them aft is the better option.

Because of the storms coming through, I chocked all the tires. With these Kansas chocks, the only way to move the plane is to lift it straight up. Chocks developed in Ohio, tested and verified in high Kansas winds.
