Woo Hoo .......... Yippee !

Post by Terry B »

It might not be that interesting for most of you, but I just had to share today with someone.........

I am now an official student pilot with 1.1 hour logged as PIC ! I decided to do a package deal at Alliance Flight Academy at AUS. I believe the experience of learnig to fly out of a controlled airport will more than make up some of the additional cost. With the package deal, I will more than likely be doing 4 to 6 lessons a week including ground. I have 3 months to complete it with an additional 2 week grace period to cover weather cancellations. There is unlimited hours, just a limited time-frame, to complete the training. With a (doable) deadline, I will be forced to fly more often and not have to relearn many things that come with intermittent flying,

Today I did the preflight, start up, taxi and takeoff. We worked on climbs, level flight and decents. Then he added climbing and decending turns. And you know what that turd did? He covered almost all the instruments (hehe) during all the flight maneuvers that I listed, (I really enjoyed that). I was afraid with technology we have available today, I would not get the grass roots training that most of you had.

If ya can not tell by now, yes.........I am EXCITED ! Thanks for letting me vent some of my excitement. This will bring me closer to my dream of building and flying my own airplane, (Now where do I want that 3rd wheel). If y'all are wondering, it will probably be a RV-9A. Think that will be the best airplane to build and fly until I get several hours under my belt and by building that airplane, I will have more of a chance of building a second one (gotta be thinking ahead).

Thanks for listening (errr reading),

Terry

Terry,

COOL! I remeber it well!

Build the plane you want to fly.

Have fun learning and keep us posted with your triumphs and tragedies!

I had a favorite instructor when I was doing my instrument work. Not some of the time or occasionally, but EVERYTIME we landed he would say the same thing. I will never forget it. His name was Harold and he was 83 years young at the time. He used to say, "Once again skill and cunning has triumphed over fear and superstition."

I will never forget him and that phrase.

To HAROLD! I wonder where he is today?

I hope he is well.

congrats TerryB!! that is great. i like the idea of the package deal forcing you to fly more often. i heard once a while ago, that if a student pilot flies once a week, he or she will only retain an AVERAGE of 17% of what they learned the week before. sheesh! :o i am currently (sllllllloooooowwwllllyyy) working on my cfi rating, and from the other side of things (being a ground instructor), i think that 4-6 lessons a week will really help you get to the goal in the time alloted.

have fun, and remember to enjoy it when working that hard! :)
