Beginning to feel like...

I am really working on an airplane!!!

I gotta say that up until now, I felt like the project was just something to idle away the time. Now that I have one tank completed (still needs to be checked) and have the second tank well underway, I am getting a sense of paranoia that I may screw something up and really set myself back!!!

Now, I realize that things can usually be fixed or "dealt with" one way or another. I just don't want to be second guessing myself at every turn!

Has or does anyone else feel this way? Maybe I should sell my parts and get a Mooney? NOT!!!

Good man. Wait until you have to drill the holes for the rear spar attach. You will feel the pressure there buddy!

I still don't feel like I am building a plane yet. It will probably hit when I have the canoe flipped.

I hope to hang the engine on my RV-6A this weekend. I am super slow but there is progress. Keep at it! There are still times that you wonder how or what you are doing!

What I found to be really scary is when it was done. It was a real airplane, blessed by the FAA, and I standing there, a newly listed aircraft manufacturer, faced with flying the contraption I had put together.

Keep building, it's worth it!

Yah, ya know... that is just the thing I have been thinking about.

The way this whole thing is set up is:

First you get an emp kit. Not alotta loot or pressure. You kinda can make mistakes. Not any real big issues.

As you progress though the kit, the ratios get larger... $$$:Screwup potential.

This $$$:Screwup potential ratio ends with the testing phase.

Your life combined with all your $$$:Total screwup potential!

What in God's creation are we doing this for?!?!

Woops!! I guess the new format forgot I had the auto log-in punched. But I just now re- punched it so shouldn't have that problem again for a while :mrgreen:

Yep, your heart will be in your throat from takeoff to touchdown. But man, oh man, when you shut 'er down and climb out with that silly grin on your face... there just ain't words. The best part is, each time you fly it, you can't wait to get back in and do it again. Even better part; it's your plane. You dang well can get back in. No FBO to call, no sluggish Cessna performance (sorry Cessna guys), no waiting you're gone! After 200 hours and about 3 years I still feel great each time I fly my RV-4. THAT's one reason we do it.

Plus once you've flown the airplane YOU built, you get to swagger. Kind of like back when you got your tailwheel endorsement or did your first aerobatics. Non-flyers will think you're just plain nuts but other pilots will know why. Spam can pilots get to enjoy their planes too but they won't have your claim to swaggering. So keep building and practice your swagger. You'll need it someday. :)

Really the only drawback I've found to building and flying an RV is that I don't get to log as many hours as I used to. You get there and back so darn quick!
