Weekend updates ??

Post by Spike »

What have you accomplished in the last week? Its been sowing on the East Coast so I imagine at least some amount of work has been finished on this side of the plains.

Ive been able to finish up the stiffener prep on the left elevator, match drilled, cleaned, deburred, and dimpled them. Currently Im working on edge prepping and cleaning/dimpling the rest of the parts. Except of the skin, I hope to be done with the left elevator prep tonight!

I am pleased to announce that my left wing has no more clecos holding the top skin on. I still need to squeeze the trailing edge, but that is nothing.

I am supposed to go see Wicked Stick today, but it is miserable out. We are in the process of skinning his tailcone. The bottom and right side are done and are working our way up the left side now.

My aileron brackets are fabbed and am focusing on my right tank and pushrods.

The right tank needs some plumbing work done as well as the last two (outside) ribs and baffle installed.

Yesterday I was at Thermos' house. We riveted his main ribs to the wing spars.

The fleet will be airborne soon!

Great Status Report Captn ! :)

I'm warming the garage/paint booth this morning, hoping I can get it warm enough to paint the last of the fuse skins.

If I get that done, and the movies or bowling alley is closed, we can rivet a bit later today.

Otherwise, I think I'm planning on some quality time with the kids this afternoon. I'll call ya about noon to advise.

My last RV builders' log entry was 1/18 :( :( :(

But I have been working on the new shop ... pulled a bunch of new circuits last week; I'm off Mon-Wed this week so I'm gonna finish the electrical and stuff in the insulation. Then I gotta get someone to do the sheetrock and RV parts will be movin' in !!

Image

does that count?

like wicked stick, i am currently warming the shop as i write this. it has stopped snowing for the moment, but it snowed all day yesterday. great times for shop work (except brit and i volunteer at our kennel club to clean it, so i was out in the blizzard yesterday powerwashing the parking lot. yes, outside, in the snow, with a powerwasher...i know  )

i'll be out in the shop ALL day today (unless a friend of mine calls for a safety pilot for his CFII work), brit is with her grandparents at a horseshow, so it's prime time for me!! pics from today, later tonight!

I'm hoping to start dimplin' and countersinkin' on the trim tab today as soon as my honey-doos are completed. I need to hurry up. I found out that the trucking company is delivering my wings on Valentines day. Does this mean I have to get the truck driver a valentine?

I did my first priming. Primed all the parts for the VS and prepared all the HS parts for priming, hopefully will get to them tonight. After way too much thinking about this subject, I finally decided to just use Mar-hyde primer. I washed the parts with dishwashing soap and water, wiped down with acetone and did a light scuff with gray scotchbrite. Then about 2-3 light coats of Mar-hyde. Results look good, in 20 years I'll report back on any corrosion I find.

Good work, John!

I am looking forward to hearing your results and analysis. Hopefully the internet will still be around!

Sounds like everyone has been up to something. The place has been some kinda quiet of late. I am guilty of not posting as much as usual.

Today, with the weather being what it is... I have all kinds of time. I am doing homework for a class I am taking on teaching methods and surfin' the BBS... soooooo you maight see a couplah posts from me today! I don't feel like heating up the garage to tinker. Raising a 24' x 28' box some 60 plus degrees doesn't make much sense to just poke around.

well, i spent ALL day in the shop today! what fun! i started this morning by finishing the teardown of my rotary engine that has been a work in progress for about 7 months now. this sort of just became a side project of mine. i am still interested in this engine, but will most likely use an airplane engine, as i think i've said before.

next, i did get started on my wings!! :yay: here's some pics from my session:

after talking with a few builders about the gap between the flange and the spar bars, i decided to try electical tape. CJ, this actually worked well, but i did not leave it on overnight or anything.

and my results from today. not a whole lot to show for the whole day, but i did sorta take my time, and work on this and that while out there. i'm still waiting for my #19 countersink to arrive from cleveland tools. should be here tomorrow...

Looks good, Chad. You're gonna catch up to me in no time.

FWIW, I left the electrical tape on there for several days (week +) with no trouble.

It's been slow to get back on to building but I've gotten one flap hung and am in the middle of hanging the other. Since all the glass work is going to be done last I will be considering the wings done for now and will be moving on to finishing the fuselage.
