The rumor mill around here says that the plane had a larger (and heavier) than standard motor and fuel tanks. That he was trying to pull over the top in a loop but the nose was too heavy and he just dropped like the proverbial rock. I have to agree. This incident gives us all a black eye. I work for a newspaper and one of the reporters called me to ask some questions about homebuilt planes. I've yet to read the article to see how it comes out but we in California's Central Valley are now in the media's collective eye.

Yes, but we know that is all a bunch of baloney. Planes don't fall out of the sky until they stop flying. That means insufficent airspeed, which is directly controlled by pitch.

There are a lot Glasair with 540's hanging on the front.

The guy didn't know how to fly aerobatics. He should have bought a couple of 10 hour blocks of time at the Sean Tucker school in Colinga, http://www.poweraerobatics.com/saf/index.html they would at least have taught him some responsibility and everybody would still be alive.
