I am planning on being done with this thing, and the light is definitely at the end of the tunnel. My wife is also pushing hard for me to get my IFR ticket this summer.

Seeing what all of you are planning to do and being overly competitive here is my plan

First I am going to sell my house to get enough money to buy all the cool tools I can find. Hell I can live in a box, as long as I have cool stuff I don’t care.

I thought about divorcing my wife as well, but then decided I could just make her go get a job so I can buy even more cool stuff for me.

I will tell my kids that they have to cover their own college costs.

Lastly if I let the cat and dog outside more often I probably won’t have to pay for food for the pets as they can fend for themselves. I understand from other cat owners that sometimes their cats bring them home "gifts" so that would save even more money for cool stuff for me.

Ill let you know how it goes……….

2008 Goals

I plan to finish the empennage and begin work on the wings before the end of the year. The Air Force keeps me fairly busy but I'm sure I'll be able to drill, bang, bend, squeeze, and document my progress in my spare time, that is...when I'm not flying for CAP or putting out fires. :P

I plan to build myself an aircraft-grade mailbox for my house.

I started it last night.... made a form block, cut, drilled for bend reliefs, and formed the rear bulkhead. Cut the skin. Tonight I'll cut and form two interior bulkheads and a front bulkhead, layout rivet lines, and assemble the upper half, then I'll cut and bend a bottom baffle. After that, a door and some piano hinge! :D

Make sure your local Postmaster approves of it or you legally cannot use it!

Weird, but true!

I should be getting the wing kit around the first of March, so I hope to be able to finish them (minus the tanks probably-saving them until I know what kind of fuel is going in them). Maybe I'll get a heater for the shop for next winter, too.

Google produced this article on a quick search.

I am sure he will approve your design. It could be your first Federally Approved Aviation-Grade homebuilt project!

I bet he will approve my design! It should weigh half as much as a sheet steel mailbox, but be four times as strong! :D

I was considering nuclear power, but don't want to deal with disposing of my used uranium
Actually, I would LIKE to run a diesel (Deltahawk), and since most (if not all) Jet A pumps have a 3" nozzle, I'd hate to build the tanks with a 2" cap. On the other hand, I'd hate to build the tanks with a 3" cap and then not be able to actually get my hands on a their engine. So I figure I'll put the tanks off until I have an engine either in my hands or know for sure I'll be burning gas :)

Most FBO's have 2" nozzles they can switch out when needed for the duckbill 3" nozzles. A lot of helicopters have 2" caps, and can only get fuel with the other nozzle. You could always buy a nozzle and carry it around in case one was not available...food for thought.

I'm going to finish the wings this year. I'll also put the RV-4 up for sale this year too unless a financial miracle happens. Otherwise I can't buy any more kits. Or I could just stop building the 7 and keep the 4 until that financial miracle happens.

What a great idea. Get on record and let your fellow bangers hold you accountable. Ok, here goes:

1. Get most of the tools I need before coming home from Iraq in August.

2. Enroll in and complete a hands-on aircraft metal working seminar of some type.

3. Bang/squeeze my first RV-7 Rivet on or before December 31st 2008.

I was tempted to commit to completing my Horizontal Stab but I thought better of it. No need to rush. After being gone from home for 15 months I think I’m just going to hug my kids for a month straight!

Don't be daydreaming about your RV TOO much...be careful and get home safe! :) And thanks.
