Hey Jeff, What CAD company do you work for? I'm using an old DOS based architectural CAD program and have been thinking about upgrading after this next set of plans. What's the scoop. AutoCAD seems to be the move?

I work for Autodesk, and yes... AutoCAD is the industry leader for many reasons. We have many different AutoCAD solutions for specific design implementations (Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, etc.) There are many comibinations and many price points and many design products (AutoCAD LT, Inventor, Revit, etc.) We have the product that's right for you. Upgrade now! Papa needs a new EFIS! :)

I'm a visual effects artist at Sony Imageworks. I use Houdini, Maya, and a couple of other bits of software to make the unreal real. Or the real unreal. Basically, I have the fanboy computer dork dream job, but the price is long hours and being trapped in Los Angeles. We just finished Spider Man 3, so I can now come up for air and resume building my RV7.

Hey wait! You mean IT manager isn't the fanboy computer dork dream job? I've been robbed!

Do you get to draw RVs with different paint schemes when you're not making black spider suits eat red spider suits?

Hey Jeff,

I use AutoCAD 2005 every day. In fact, I'm supposed to be using it now (I'm at work). We just switched from 2002 Mechanical. Overall its an improvement but there are a few things I haven't gotten used to yet.

Anyway, I remember seeing a personal submarine on some documentary a few years ago that was sponsored by Autodesk? Do you remember that?

One last question: any easter eggs in AutoCAD 2005 I can amaze my co-workers with?

I'm looking for a good 3D model of the RV-7, preferably in .obj format that I can bring into Houdini or Maya and virtually paint. The fun thing is, I'll be able to use HDR environments to make it as photoreal as possible before committing to a paint scheme, if any.

Most days the last thing I want to do after a long day of CGI is more CGI, but since it's RV related, it's not so bad. Maybe I can try putting a black spider suit eating a red spider suit on the RV. While I'm not sure I'd want to turn my ship into a promotional vehicle for a film that certainly needs no more promotion ($282 million domestic so far), it would be a smokin' paint scheme.

I'm hip.

Black and red would be a cool paint job. Dunno about the spider thing. Unless of course, you like spiders. :)
