Oh Yeah Babe! Wings Are Here!

Well they're sort of here. The nice man from ABF just delivered these two big boxes that seem to have a ton of parts in them. What's the deal? You mean I have to build this thing? LOL!

Can't wait to start inventorying these suckers tonight.

FYI, ABF was great. The guy helped me unload. The boxes were not heavy and were easily handled by two people.

My fuse is supposed to arrive at Van's in June. I will either pick it up myself in a rented truck/trailer or I will have Tony Partain deliver it to the east coast for me. Is anyone else interested in chipping some money toward the truck and having me deliver something for them if I do that?

Hmmm, Van's site says that those boxes are 200lbs a piece. They way you all are describing them it keeps sounding like they are lighter than that.

they are 200 lbs apiece. my dad and i carried my spar box from the street to the garage without any problem, but the other box is better suited to a two wheel hand truck or something of the like. they're not really that bad at all to move around.

Does that other box not need to stay flat? A two wheel handcart implies that you are tipping it on end.

we tipped it on end without a problem, then leaned the had truck over about 45 degrees to wheel it into the garage. the stuff is packed so nice and tight, i don't think it will move. the only thing i wouldn't do it flip it upside down because the wing tips are on top in the box, and the skins and other stuff would end up on top of the tips, and could damage them. putting it up on end wasn't a problem though.

See, I told you it wasn't all that bad.

I just got through painting my wing stands. Chad and some of the other guys that built the metal stands went and spoiled me and made me think I needed some also.

I think I will like them. :)

Have fun on the inventorying. When you are done with that you might as well start right out and do the part everyone likes best, deburring, straightening flanges and fluting ribs! I just finished all of my ribs last night. Glad they are done.

Cool!

They really aren't that bad...

The packaging makes them easy to carry. The weight is evenly distributed and they aren't really ungainly.

Get to work!!!

I did a set of the metal stands too (or rather had someone make them for me). I will be painting mine this weekend as well.

John, we are overdue for a work session. The trouble is I have been working like a slave on work-work. This coming week I will be in NJ on Tuesday and Wednesday then Boston on Thursday.

When I was in the shop this morning I snapped a couple of images of how I used my crates before coming in for lunch. I made a shelf from the spar box and used the other box as part of a worktable. I can still store skins and stuff in the box used in the table and it comes in pretty handy.

Actually it is gas. I thought about wood but decided I could better spend my time building. :)

Usually the thermostat is set to 60 and then when I go out to work I bump it up to 68 and it is just about right.

Nice...

I have a gas furnace in my shop but keep it a bit lower. Usually around 63 if I am alone. I normally wear some insulated bibs and it keeps my clothes clean in the process.

That is Wicked Stick on the left, Thermos in the center and me on the right.

That's what I need!

That's one of my next additions to the shop is a fridge.

The other thing that would be nice is a few more RV builders close by. All of the people I know in this area are done with theirs already and out flying. Plus I live about 50 miles from all of them out in the sticks.

I like it here though.

The fridge is essential to slowing up the curing process of proseal. It is also handy to keep the thinking potions cool!

We don't have too many builders around here. Not as many as I would like to see, anyways. The ones we have are great though!

When I picked up my fuselage jig in Ft Collins, the guy had turned his fridge into a keggerator. Now that would be hard to deal with. :drink:
