Fuselage Arrived

Post by bmurrish »

FedEx Freight delivered my RV-8 slow build fuselage today. The truck had a liftgate and the driver offloaded it with a handtruck by himself into my garage. The cost to deliver the two crates totally 360 lbs from Van's to Colorado was $249.79. Now comes the fun of inventorying. :)

Wow! That actually sound pretty cheap for delivery.

Have fun with the inventory. :) I always think it is a little like Christmas when I was a kid. Get to see what all is in the boxes.

COOL!!!

Bill, check your weldments. My tailwheel and rudder pedals were bad.

Gus traded them without a problem.

Have fun!

I am pretty surprised the fuselage kit went FedEx. I was told before that the wing and fuselage kits were too big and heavy to go FedEx. So far all three of my kits have came via FedEx. The drivers have always been able to offload the stuff pretty much by themselves.

Hey CJ, do you remember how much you paid for your fuse shipment? I realize you are a lot furture, but just curious.

Check book is right here, lemme see...

$303.28 delivered on October 15, 2005!

That was before all the shipping costs boomed with the fuel. Fuel was getting high, but not quite where it is now!

There goes the price of everything!!!

Hi guys, I thought I would introduce myself here. I started building and learning to fly at the same time. My flight training and building were delayed but I kept saving for the RV-4. I had Vans quote shipping for the wing kit to Wisconsin $375. Had them quote for wings and fuselage $375. I ordered before the price increase and saved about 500 bucks in all. So I now have Empennage, Wings and Fuselage. All I need is to get my shop going. If you order two kits at the same time you can save some $$$. My inner cheap S.O.B is happy and so is Clear Air, Avery and Cleavland!

Oh, BTW shipping charges ended up being $316 and the driver helped me unload the kits into my garage.

I remember that day, when I was at your house when the delivery guy arrived and you hadn't yet. I was thinking, "how am I going to stall him until John gets here" so he doesn't leave and have to come back another day...

Oh, the good old days!!

Welcome to the site!

Good deal on the shipping - every dollar saved is a dollar for tools, lol. BTW, I think Avery is very happy with Spike too! :spit:

I picked up my fuselage kit from the freight hub today.

The best part was when I told the receptionist who I was and that I was there to pick up two crates from Oregon. She looked at the paperwork and suddenly said, "Oh, you are one of those crazy airplane people!"

Evidently I am not the only one to pick up a shipment from Van's at that office!

Oh Boy!!!! You ain't kidding. I finally got to crack open one of the boxes and let me tell you, if you enjoyed the wing shipment you are going to be doing back flips when you get your fuselage. The really cool thing is that this time you are seeing actual recognizable parts like the rudder pedals, roll bar, control sticks, landing gear, and the most coolest for me, a tailwheel assembly. I think it is starting to finally dawn on me that I am building an airplane. So far all weldments have been to Van's standards. Perfect!!!

Bill, that is great!

It is cool to recognize the parts immediately, huh? I remember back when I started the emp. I recognized maybe the skins! I knew what a rivet was, but the entire sizing thing was a mystery! Now that the fuse is inventoried, I feel comfortable in determinimg what is what.

These are the things that make the first plane the most difficult!

Cool! Now if we could all just figure out a way to get Santa to bring these things and not come COD.
