Looks like everyone is gonna be crankin' hot today except for here on Cape Cod!
Wildfires out west, heat in the heartland and calm winds/sunny skies here on the Cape! I think I will take the boat out ont he salt today. A run to the Vineyard should produce air temps on the water only around 80 degrees.
I know I should be building, but it looks like a boating day!
What have you got planned?

I'll be changing my oil on the RV-4 in preparation for the trip to OSH next week.
John, lets plan on moving your wings from the jigs to the cart/stand on Monday afternoon, before we leave for the Chapter meeting.
If that works for you let me know.

Here is my wife working while I'm up on the roof taking pictures!
We tore this island down to nothing last weekend and are just about finished... it has cost me some rivetbangin' time that's for sure!
Should be done by tonight!

We just put a new foundation under the front of the house and there has been lots for me to do at the clinic. All this summer time gettin things done has really cut into my RB'n time also.

No rivetbangin' for me either today.

I had to go to a horseshow in this 97 degree weather! Then an afternoon and dinner at the in-laws.

Up high in the mts here in CO it is nice and cool ... I spent the AM climbing at 9500' and am getting ready to go drop the float tube in the lake and see if I can catch a few cutthroats!
Unfortunately no building time, but my QB fuse did arrive yesterday (thanks to buddy Stu and my dad for ensuring its safe arrival!)
Looking forward to OSH ... maybe I can get a little work in on the -8 towards the end of this week, but I'm not looking forward to the humidity in Indy again!

We made it up to 95 degrees here in Colorado Springs. I finally broke down and turned on the A/C for the first time this year. Good thing is my walk-out hangar (basement) stays nice and cool for building. My -8 landing gear boxes are about done.

Too hot for y'all? It's going to get worse. Global warming is killing the planet, and we're causing it. If you haven't seen "An Inconvenient Truth," do it. I don't care if you're the staunchest most right-wing Republican, don't let the fact that it's Al Gore put you off. YOUR CHILDREN will not have much of a planet left if we don't make changes, and make them now.
There's also a global warming show tonight, on the Discovery channel, with Tom Brokaw. Watch it. If you aren't satisfied, I'll give you your two hours back.

Bill, you JUST turned on your air!! Sheesh! We've been crankin' here in central IL for two months!

Dave, sounds good! I will call you tomorrow afternoon.
Here is a picture I took from the helm while I was cruising the salt today.
No tuna today. I heard they were in town, but this would be early for them. I usually see them around August.

NICE CJ!
I am currently looking for a little run-a-bout to cruise the lakes and rivers in my area. Nothing fancy, just want to get out on the water again! We had boats growing up, and up until last year, we had use of a nice pontoon party boat. I really miss being able to head out to the lake for the day to cruise (and fish!!)

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but my weekend was filled with raking, bailing and stacking hay.
gotta make hay while the sun shines. . . just wish it didn't have to shine so darned hot!!!
One other thought; Wasn't it about 30 years ago that all the great scientific minds were sqwaking about global cooling? The ice age is coming! the ice age is coming.

I started layups on some fiberglass. It was really hot work, so hot that the epoxy started smoking after about 5 minutes! Kept having to mix up new batches. Anyway, spent some time in the morning starting to the -4 in paint shape then drove the family up into the Sierra Nevada mountains until we got to about 85 degrees. That was about at 8000 foot elevation!
Spent this afternoon (105 degrees) in the preacher's pool. Hoping it will cool off a bit so I can do some glass work and some empanage work.

We had a pretty productive weekend. Yesterday we got he ailerons finished and the flaps well under way. This afternoon I primed the flaps and thye are now ready to rivet.
After finishing the priming I ran by the airport and hung out in the air conditioned office for a while. Then took the wife out for dinner as next weekend we head to Osh!
Days like this make the AC in the shop really nice!
Hope everyone has a great week!

Spent the day Jet-skiing. Reached 103 in Pueblo. Bill you missed it brother. Tore it up out there. Would have been nice to do some wake-boarding.
Glad you got a lot done on the 8.
Give me a shout when you grab some lunch.

Andy, Denver was 102 yesterday. I'm amazed how C Springs usually has the best weather on the Front Range. I was kicking myself in the butt for not coming down to the res. I bet it was crowded though. You should have stopped by and grabbed my wakeboard.

Saturday I pulled the plane out of the hanger at 7:00am and it was already 80! Flew a photo mission for my boss's new land he just bought. Got back to OSH at 10:00am and it was WAY too hot. They already have all of the tents set up and the port-a-potties out.
Then the wife and I went tubing down the Wolf river with a freind from work and his girlfriend. That was the most fun I have had in years
But now I have a massive sunburn on my legs
CJ, do you ever catch any tuna? I just bought some from the asian market here to make sushi with on Friday. It was fresh frozen and very good but $$$.

Yes Will, we do catch tuna here. It is really a cool thing when it all comes together. A day like yesterday when it is F.A.C. (flatass calm!) and you can see them bounding out of the water and splashing back in is really a sight to behold! It feels like someone is dropping cinder blocks out of a helicopter when they are smashing all around you! You can see them coming from miles away!
They usually cruise in schools at around 30 to 35 knots!!! We call them football tuna due to their shape, but I think they are blue fins by definition.
You park yourself where you *think* they might pass and start firing into the school with light tackle. We use spinning gear with deadly dicks or even better... fly gear!
They are so fast and strong you really need to be careful they don't spool you while you play them! On the spinning gear, you can fire at them faster, but it is more fun working them on the fly!

Air Conditioned shop

My 24'X16' shop is small but a window airconditioner that I got free about 15 years ago makes it very nice working. The only thing that makes it difficult is trying to make templates that fit the the baffeling. After a few hours of that frustration my words start to heat up the place even through the tempature is only 75 degrees!
