Duckworks Temp??
Does anyone have any info on the temp. a Duckworks light reaches while in use? For the various bulbs?
I am using a primer that is flat grey, and would like to paint the light bays with a "chrome" spray paint. The can says not to use it in applications that exceed 200 degrees. Seems pretty high, but want to check to make sure.
I'm installing the rectangular Duckworks, and will probably go with the 100 watt bulbs.

I'd be nervous about that. A light bulb puts out a hell of a lot of heat, and confined in a small space it could really cook. 200 F isn't very hot. It might end up being inconvenient if your chrome paint caught on fire. But who knows? Maybe the aluminum will wick the heat out effectively. Why not drop the Duckworks guy a note and ask him?

Thanks guys. Still noodling on this one. Gives me something else to worry about, rather than the impending leak test on the tanks!
I have seen/felt a lot of heat coming off of landing lights before on larger airplanes. But I'm just about convinced these "automobile" bulbs can't get hot enough to do any damage...people would be melting lenses, burning up car parts all the time with so much less cooling airflow. 200 degrees is REALLY high...rain drops would just about vaporize on your headlights, and you'd certainly be able to feel the heat thrown off after parking your car (that's PAWWWKING your CAAAWWR for you Boston area guys).
I was sure Brad would run out and conduct more experiments on my behalf! I may have to find another Leader for "Follow the Leader"

The ribs are primed, the DW pieces and the skins are not. I'm mainly thinking about painting the portion of the rib that is visable/exposed in the bay. Those ribs aren't all nice and shiny like the rest to begin with, primed or not!
The LE is not permanently assembled yet.
If I can keep my humble skills from scratching the rest of the alclad up, I'll probably leave the other parts bare.
