Wings Are Broken

Well, they are not really broken, just in what is called the 'droop' position. We had to wash the bird yesterday, and before we wash it, the wings get drooped for washing and the grease job that comes afterwards.

8 blade. Newest upgrade. This is our first bird to get the new NP2000 upgrade back in November. Here is a couple of links about the NP2000 system.

That was my first reaction. I think I'm going to have to shop around for an eight bladed prop that's compatable with a 200hp engine. I need the extra ramp appeal

It is just amazing to see one of this big boys take off and land on a carrier deck. Flat out awe inspiring. You gotta hand it to the men who fly these things.

One of the above links gave the prop weight at 910 pounds. 1/2 of the gross of most of our projects. I think an 8 blade might cause a little W&B issue.

I dont know much about W/B but if you put one up front, and the other on the tail you should be balanced.

Three years ago I got to fly right seat in an E-2 off of the carrier JFK (I am land based Navy pilot, EP-3). It was a total blast and I was surprised how nible it was, for the shape and size of it. It has the same engines (only half as many) as my plane, so I was familiar with the response.

We got to do 6 T/G's, but he would only let me fly it down to a "low" alt, and then the left seater took over for the actual landing.

I was told that it was the fastest plane to 10K ft of any plane on the carrier, if burner isn't used. Can't confirm it, just what I was told.

I am sure with the new 8 bladed props it is even more fun to fly, even with that big old dish on top.

I just hope the new props actually reduce the amount of vibration as they claim. Been having to do a lot of cracked engine cowling repairs lately. Ah the life as a semi professional rivet banger.

It would be interesting see that prop mounted on the AE2100 engines on a C-130J!! The 6 blade Dowty's on it now gave a good performance increase over the old Hamilton Standards.!! Better yet, wonder how it would perform on an older H model that has the same T-56 engines?
The original post refered to the "Droop" postion. The C-5 wings actually droop (move downward) 7 full feet on the ground when the tanks are filled! -- Les

Yikes, they are saying that the props by themselves will give the same performance as a C-130 with standard props and JATO bottles? That's some prop if that's true.

When did the hummer get those new props? I wonder about FOD issues with all that surface area.
