this doesn't seem right to me

Hi guys - I need some help...Here is a picture of my standard fuel tank cap & flange, laying upside down on the bench:
See how the O-ring is almost out of the flange? At least half of it is not supported by the flange. I think the flange is too short. I can try to tighten the cap, but I think it's already pretty tight.
If the flange was 1/8" longer, this design would be better.
What do you think? Am I just paranoid or is this really wrong?
EDIT - oops, I meant to post this to the standard vs. deluxe thread, sorry.

I have to look at mine, but IIRC, they look the same as mine. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. What does it look like in the open position?
...the deluxe guys will tell you that you have the wrong caps though...

Hi Dave,
I would question Vans about whether something is right or wrong with the parts. They will tell you if you have the correct parts or if something sounds wrong. If they say that the parts are correct, as they probably will, then you will need to decide if you can live with the design or need to proceed with an available option. At that point, Vans is usually worthless with advise. I built my 7A with the stock fuel caps/rings but cannot remember what the inside looked like.
Good Luck!

Two things, yes... deluxe caps are nice and now, the really stupid question of the day.
What does IIRC mean? I have been in forums for
EVER and seen others use it before, but I CANNOT figure it out!
Would someone please clue me in? I know the answer is going to be as plain as the nose on my face!

CJ,
If I recall correctly, it means "If I Recall Correctly".

Don't worry Dave. Mine look just like that and they have worked great for about 140 hrs.

Thanks Dan - After some tank cap futzing and careful measurement, I think the caps are "OK". Not great, not the best, but OK. They'll probably work fine, but I have to decide if that is what I want before I rivet them on. For an extra $60 per side, the deluxe version may be for me.
While digging around, I found a catalog of what I think is the deluxe version, for anyone interested:

Without measuring mine, it looks like the Aero 300 is the one!
Order them with undrilled flanges, obviously!
Good find!

Ah come on Dave, just go with the Deluxe ones! You know you want to.
Feel free to stop down and look at mine anytime. They are pretty nice and I figured in the overall scheme of things I would forget what they cost. Of course I've said that for about $20,000 worth of stuff by the time I get done with this thing.

Oh well, like they say, it is only money.
